"nadia! what are you doing here?" mackenzie questioned the girl standing in front of her. "oh nothing. i just came here to wish you luck." nadia spoke snidely.
"okay..." mackenzie raised her eyesbrows. "don't take it too harsh when i win," nadia added with a smirk.
"what makes you so sure you're gonna win?" mackenzie asked, her temper rising.
"oh, i think we all know i am." nadia gave the brunette a sly grin. "well, watcg me beat you fair and square."
nadia gave a small smile. she had been waiting for this opportunity. "okay, let's see then. since we are both nominated for best album of the year, whosoever wins, will give the loser something to do, and the loser has to do it." nadia suggested
mackenzie confidently nodded. "great! see you on the battlefield." nadia waved.
"it's not a battle. it's a war i'm sure to win." mackenzie called after her, grinning to herself. this should be fun.
about half an hour later, brandon arrived, ready to take mackenzie to the awards. she slipped on her uncomfortable heels, and then followed him.
"for the first time i actually understand the difference between pretty, and beautiful." brandon sighed, looking at mackenzie almost as though he was in a trance.
mackenzie couldn't help blushing. she was just like any other girl, and even though the compliment was from brandon, she couldn't help but feel happy. "thank you. you don't look to bad yourself," she flirted.
"thanks." brandon smiled, before leading her out to where the limousine was waiting.
they got in, were driven to the venue for the awards. the moment the pair got out, they were bombarded by the paparazzi, wanting to interview them and get pictures.
brandon grabbed mackenzie's hand and helped her pull through the crowd. mackenzie wanted to pull away, but didn't. she still hadn't completely forgiven him.
they finally reached the theater, which was already pretty crowded, and sat down on the comfortable chairs.
finally once everyone settled down, the awards began. a few names were called out, and everyone clapped as the winners went up to collect their awards.
soon enough, it was time for the best male artist award to be given. mackenzie could see brandon's nervousness etched all across his face. this was the only award he had been nominated for.
the host spoke into her mike, "and the award for the best male artist goes to...brandon rowland!" the whole room errupted into loud applause.
mackenzie have brandon a genuine smile. sure, he stole her song, and yes, that was what brought him fame, but the rest of his songs, he himself wrote, and so he did deserve the award.
mackenzie fixed a smile on her face, knowing the paparazzi would be sure to zoom into her face, seeing as she was brandon's girlfriend.
brandon went on stage, and began his speech. "first off, i would like to thank my manager for baring my arguments, and supporting me throughout. then i would like to thank mackenzie, my girlfriend. thank you mackenzie for being there with me through it all, and yeah! love you!" the whole crowd made an 'aw' sound, as he said that, and mackenzie turned a furious shade of red, but to cover it up, like any normal adult would have done, she stuck her tongue out at him.
brandon simply laughed, and then went on with his dedications. finally, once he was done, he came back and sat down next to mackenzie.
a few more awards were given out, and finally it was time for the best album award. mackenzie sat on her seat in excitement, quivering. the host began to speak.
"the best album award goes to...mackenzie ziegler!" mackenzie couldn't believe her ears. she'd done it! she had really done it! she sat still for a moment, but then realising she had to walk up on stage, she made a quick decision. she slipped off her heels, and began to walk. her dress was long enough to cover her feet as well.
she slowly began walking to the stage, making sure that the dress wouldn't reveal her feet.
finally she made it to the stage, and waited for johnny to come out and give her the award. he slowly came, holding a glass trophy, smiling brightly, proud of mackenzie. "i'm so proud of you." he whispered as he handed it to her, before walking backstage.
she then stepped onto the podium, and began her speech. earlier she had been told by greg that him and faith had to be mentioned first in the speech, but as mackenzie looked upon her family sitting in the crowd, smiling up at her proudly, she knew she couldn't do that.
"first up, i would like to thank dale, because without him, none of this would have been possible. if he hadn't found me those few years ago, i wouldn't be here. i would also like to thank the rest of my newfound family for their continuous support! i love each and every one of you, and can't express how much you guys mean to me.
next, i would like to thank mrs. nicole for all her lessons that have helped me reach here, and overcome any fears i used to have.
i would also like to thank greg and faith for the help they gave me to get here.
and finally, i would like to thank someone who i know will be with me all day and night," mackenzie finished.
she knew johnny would understand that she was talking about him.
she also knew everyone would assume it was brandon, because he stole their song, but johnny? he would know.
the crowd burst into another set of applause as mackenzie made her way back to her seat, slowly again. she sat down, and after smiling at brandon's congratulations, she slowly slipped her feet back into her heel, unable to stop smiling. she had won. she had actually won!
now if only she could win best artist of the year. then she had control on nadia as well.
