Fact #17 The concept of magic being introduced into the Goonies world was something I debated on a lot and was very hesitant to add, I wanted to keep the simplicity of the film with just ordinary kids going on an adventure but in the end I added it to give a different and darker kind of threat and tone. Given pirate lore and the stories told about magic and mermaids as well as people being accused for witch craft I thought it actually fit, after all that boat didn't turn itself. . .
