Rain was falling hard.

He walked slowly, observing people running away, covering their heads with their suitcases or plastic bags, some sprinting to the nearest bus stop or cafe. How laughable...Humans are even afraid of mere droplets of water... He stared at the grey sky and inhaled profoundly. He felt lonely yet loneliness alone was not enough to picture the feelings in his heart. There was a word more appropriate...Ah! Right. Emptiness was the word he was looking for. He felt empty. He continued walking peacefully as no one paid attention to him. They couldn't. As long as he...

He heard the sound of a car passing near but didn't pay much care. He was hungry, terribly hungry. It had been a while since he last ate something. Was it three days? Three months? He didn't really know. He was confused. He felt weak and cold. He only wanted to go to the library, initially, and buy a book he had long been waiting for, but things didn't turn out the way he wanted to.

He didn't expect that he would have to deal with so many problems. First of all, they had found him. He was always very careful when going out, making sure not to be found, but this time he had no luck. He only forgot for a brief moment, but it was already too late. Once they saw him, he couldn't hide anymore. He had spent the last few days escaping from them, and it seemed that at last, he had finally managed to distance himself from them. He knew that walking around was still risky, but he couldn't delay any longer. He also really wanted his book which he had previously failed to buy due to some unwanted disruption. He stopped at the pedestrian gateway and waited for the light to turn green.

After purchasing the book, I have to look for food. He reminded himself. Otherwise, things would get more complicated. Suddenly, he felt an uncomfortable shiver sliding from his nape all down to his back. That feeling...He was being observed. He reacted, but too late and felt a sharp pain erecting from his shoulder. A growl escaped his lips due to the intensity of the pain he felt. He almost tripped because of the impact of the bullet, but urgently regained his balance and started running.

There was no time.

The hunt had begun and he was the designated prey.

The light was still red so he almost got hit by a truck and managed to dodge at the last moment. He flew away, his legs pushing as hard as they could, his chest aching as he was trying to breathe. He felt a warm stream of liquid running down his arm. Blood. He couldn't stop and take a look at his wound, but he knew it was serious. His legs were trembling from the efforts and almost gave up under him. He pushed himself harder.

He arrived at an intersection and took the right. From the corner of his eye, he counted 5 men. He spotted two others coming from the left. 7 in total. They had called for reinforcement.

He was doomed.

He took some side streets in order to divide them.  Many streets intertwined, some with dead ends, others joining some new paths. It was a complete maze. He was born with a really poor sense of direction and soon got lost as he reached a dead end. He quickly turned back and took the left which unfortunately turned out to be a bad idea. One of his pursuers took him by surprise and started assaulting him.

The man jumped on him and both fell on the wet asphalt. He tried to dodge the punches and replied back, but the man was now over him. He took his only weapon available, a pen from his pocket and tried to stab his attacker in the eyes, but only managed to scratch his cheek. The enemy winced, but didn't move and swept the pen away from his hand.

With his legs, he attempted to push his assailant, but as a result, he only made him angrier. Infuriated, the man applied pressure on his injured shoulder, pressing with all his weight. He let out a scream and almost lost consciousness from the pain, dark spots dancing in his vision. The assaulter witnessing his victim's body getting numb started to fasten his wrists with his belt as it was the only thing he could find at the moment to restrain his movements.
