~Kakashi's POV~
I remember the Hokage telling me Amaya was new here and I had to make her feel welcome. I decided I would introduce her to the other squad leaders tonight.  I went straight to the barbecue restaurant where I knew they all met after a long day of training. I ran ahead and told them I was introducing them to someone new. They all nodded and I ran back outside to bring Amaya in. I sat across from Guy, Amaya, who was on my left, sat across from Kurenai, and Asuma sat the end of the booth. We all ordered drinks and I nudged her to introduce herself, "Hello I'm Amaya," She said nervously. She offered a closed eye smile and scratched the back of her head.

Guy immediately reacted causing everyone to jump. With a slam of his hand on the table he stood, "You're the one with the hickies all over. Ah the power of youth. So tell us Amaya, who gave them to you?" he yelled at her. This wasn't going to go well.

~Amaya's POV~
Guy's question threw me off and I turned red. Unnoticed I slid my hand on to Kakashi's leg and he grabbed it. I squeezed it and looked up at Guy with a smirk, "That's my little secret," I said with a laugh. The girl reached her hand out to me and I shook it as she introduced herself as Kurenai. The other man just grunted his name was Asuma and I nodded. We kept drinking and eventually ordered a table meal. Kakashi started getting handsy and running his hand up my thigh, getting a little too high. I had to hold his hand still to keep anything from happening.

Kakashi and Guy got into some kind of argument and bet who could run more laps around the village in 30 minuets. I payed for the meals and drinks then stepped outside to stand with Kurenai and Asuma. As Kurenai and I started talking more, I knew we would become good friends and Asuma was nice enough. Kakashi was on his 5th lap with Guy barely behind him. They still had 15 minutes to go which earned a quiet groan from me. Kurenai came from a short conversation with Asuma and stood beside me, "Kakashi speaks highly of you," she said quietly out of the blue.

"Really?" I asked with genuine interest. I thought for sure he only saw me as someone who he could hook up with, that's all I saw him as.

"He remembered you from his childhood and when he heard he'd be teaching with you he was quite excited. After he lost everyone else from Team Minato I thought he'd cry when he saw you. I remember him telling us that he saw you the night before, ducking down under your window. He wasn't sure it was you but after he saw you in the Hokage's office, he knew. The news that a childhood friend of his was still alive stunned him."

"I missed the whole team, but mostly him. He was the only person there for me when I moved here as a child. Living in the Mist was horrible both times. I got word that the whole team had ended up dying in the Fourth Great Ninja War. I see now that the intel was incorrect but I grieved for weeks over Kakashi and the team. I'm glad we're working together now."

"He told Asuma he wants to protect you. I'm sure that has some meaning that only he understands but it's cute. He doesn't show as much compassion as he does towards you and that team. You guys would make such a cute couple," she said with a smile and a giggle. I blushed and said a quiet thanks.

Finally the boys finished up their quarrel, and Kakashi had just barely come out with the win.  Guy said something about wanting to run 1,000 laps around the village after we left as punishment. We all bid farewell and Kakashi insisted on walking with me. As I walked home I took in the scenery and turned over was Kurenai told me.

We reached my door shortly and I expected him to stay as he had the past few nights but he turned to me and spoke, "I just wanted to see you home, I have some thinking to do tonight and I just need to be alone," he spoke the words curtly and walked to his own floor without even a goodbye. I was surprised but shrugged it off as I went inside my own house. I did some quick cleaning as it wasn't to late, taking this time to do some thinking of my own.

After I finished, I went and got in a black tank top that was a little tight. I also slid on some lose red sweat pants. I sat down on the couch to read my book but before I could even start a sentence there was a soft knock at my door. I stood and went to answer, confused since it was so late. It had started pouring rain shortly after I began cleaning so I wasn't surprised to hear extremely loud thunder and see large flashes of lighting. I opened the door, letting in a cold gust of air. Kakashi stood at my door dripping wet, "Kakashi? Come inside it's freez..."

He cut me off, my taking my hand in his and sadly shaking his head, "Amaya there was a time after you left I didn't think I was going to move on, ever. I loved you. I tried to love Rin back like she loved me but I just couldn't, not after you, and now... I just," he stopped. I could see that his visible eye was red, was he crying?

"Kakashi.." I was cut off again as he continued.

"We're just teaching together okay? I can't do this all over again, losing you I mean. You could go away again tomorrow and I don't want to get attached just for that to happen, I'm not going to, I'm sorry," he dropped my hand and turned around to leave.

"Kakashi..." I didn't know what to say. I didn't love him, I knew that. All he was to me was a casual hook up, a friend. But for some reason my heart began racing and my stomach began churning. I went to grab him but let my hand drop as I realized that he was right, I didn't know if I was going to stay here. I watched him give me a last saddened look as he went down the stairs to his own apartment.
