A month after the accident, I was out of the hospital and starting school in the next week. My house was empty since my parents weren't here and I had to put it up for sale. I bought an apartment and got another job. I didn't know how I was going to work two jobs during the school year but here goes nothing.

The first day of school came too soon. I walked in the front doors, keeping my head down. I had my headphones in and walked to class. I sat in the back of the room, next to a guy I didn't recognize. Which was surprising since I knew or at least recognized everyone, being a senior and all. I looked at my phone, forgetting I wouldn't get a text from my mom saying 'Love you. Mwaah.' I locked my phone and leaned my head against the wall and closed my eyes. I opened my eyes when the teacher walked in. The class was stupid and way too long for my liking.

I kept glancing at the guy sitting next to me. It looked like he was writing a song, only chords though.

He looked up and I looked back down at my paper. When he looked back down I caught a glimpse of the chords, I wasn't sure what instrument they were for but I could write some lyrics. Class ended and I grabbed my things and headed to second period. I sat in the back of the room again and didn't make eye contact with anyone.

I opened my spiral and a slip of paper fell out. I unfolded it, 'you look beautiful today' it said. I rolled my eyes, I didn't look beautiful today or ever for that matter.

I crumpled the note up and pushed it to the bottom of my backpack. I was just going to focus on writing lyrics. After a few too many attempts, I gave up and the bell rang for lunch. I walked out of the classroom, with headphones already in my ears. I through the doors to the cafeteria and ran into something solid. I looked up to see the guy I sat next to in first period, looking down and me. He was saying something I couldn't hear over my music. I pulled a headphone out. "I'm sorry. I didn't see you." He says. I rolled my eyes and stood, nodding my head and walking past him. I walked to a lunch table the wasn't occupied and sat down. A few minutes later I was joined by John Doe. I didn't know his name so this was the best I had. "Can I sit here?" He asked. I just nodded my head.

"You don't talk much, do you?"

I shook my head no.

"Alright, well I guess I'll just ask yes or no questions then. First question, do you always sit by yourself away lunch?"

I shook my head no. He looked at me confused, then pulled out a notebook. "How about you write your answers on here?" I nodded my head yes. "Alright why are you sitting by yourself if you didn't before?"

'it's a long story...'

"Oh.. Ok. Anyway what's your name since I don't actually know it."

'Caroline'

"I'm Hunter. It's nice to meet you."

'nice to meet too' I smiled after he read it.

"You seem like a really nice girl, why don't you talk?"

'long story.' Before he could ask another question the bell rang, and I quickly rushed off to class.

School finished and I walked home. My apartment was very empty, I sold almost everything when I sold my parents house. All I had in my new apartment was a couple of sheets, some silver ware, and some clothes. I ate some food and put on my uniform for work.

Surprisingly I wasn't late for work. It was the first time in a long time that I hadn't been late for work.

"Caroline, your not late." My boss said. I simply nodded.

"You can't be a waitress if you don't talk." He said, I shrugged.

"Caroline. I know you're going through something but you were my best waitress and I want that girl back." He said with a soft smile. I just stared at him, after a few seconds I looked away and walked towards the kitchen.
