“It’s true! I know it is! It has to be!” I scowled. I knew I was right. There was no way that I would be wrong, not after all the work I’ve done.

      Kero sighed. “No.”

      “What?!” I squealed.

Kero frowned at me. “Stop being so loud!”

“No! I will not believe it! I am right!” I said. I grabbed the papers from him and read through them.

“Astatine is a Halogen, not a Nobel Gas.” Kero said as he put his hands behind his head and leaned against the headboard of my bed.

I threw the papers on the bed, grabbed a pillow and screamed into it. I then looked at Kero. “I am going to fail.”

He looked at me. “Shouldn’t you know this stuff already? Isn’t it a test to review the grade eleven stuff?”

I felt my cheeks heat up. “Maybe…”

He rolled his eyes and picked up the papers. “Look here, do you notice how all the Nobel Gasses end with ‘on’, all but Helium.”

      I nodded. “Oh yeah! I remember…”

“Well keep that in your head.” He lightly bonked my head with his fist.

I frowned. “I’m still gonna fail.” I said.

      “No you aren’t.”

      “Yes I am.”

“No you—” He looked at me. “Study.”

I sighed and took the papers from him. I then realized something. “You’re learning more than I am, aren’t you?”

      He smiled at me.

I groaned. “Maybe I’m just dumb.”

He grabbed my hand and pulled me into his arms. “Yes, you’re dumb.” He said.

      I frowned at him.

“But that doesn’t mean you can’t pass this test with flying colours.” He smiled at me.

I still frowned at him. “I’m not dumb.”

“Hey, you’re the one who said it.” He grinned.

I sighed and snuggled into him. “I don’t want to study.” I said. I hate school.

Kero frowned. “I’m distracting you, aren’t I?” He asked.

“No!” I lied. Of course, I didn’t mind this distraction.

      He got up. “I’m leaving.”

      “What?” I frowned. “Don’t go!”

“How about this… if you pass this test with over an eighty percent, I’ll take you out. If you don’t, then I’m going to go back to Raakshya for a week.”

My mouth fell open. “You are so torturing me!” I knew he was serious. He was always serious about things like this.

He bent down. “Get to work.” He said before he kissed me.

“Aathiray?” I heard my dad say as he threw the door open.

I saw a blur and Kero sitting at the opposite side of the room.

“What are you doing?” My dad asked as he eyed Kero. Obviously he didn’t see the kiss. Thank goodness for Kero’s super speed.

      Kero waved at him.

      “I’m studying. Kero’s helping.”

“But I’m leaving now.” Kero added as he got up.

“Oh.” My dad said as he moved to aside to let Kero pass.

“Bye Aathy, remember our deal.” He said.

      “Yeah… bye.”

“Bye uncle.” Kero said to my dad.

My dad nodded his head at him.

As soon as he was gone, my dad looked at me. “What deal?” He asked, suspiciously.

      I sighed. “Dad…”

      My dad crossed his arms.

“He said that if I pass this test with over an eighty he’ll… buy me a chocolate bar.”

      My father raised an eyebrow.

“He said he would get a huge one.” I smiled. “You all know that I love chocolate.”

My dad sighed and turned around. He put his hand on the doorframe. “Aathy… just remember, you two… have time. Wait till you enter university before you get serious with guys.” I could tell that he felt awkward talking about this.

      “Dad!”

“I’m just saying it for your sake! If you think about love right now then you are going to mess up your studies. You still have time, you need to grow up and learn how to judge people before you start dating them.” He said.

      I sighed. “Yes dad.”

He smiled and walked out of the room.

Okay, fine. Maybe I do get distracted easily and maybe I could screw up my studies if I get too into love… but I didn’t have to worry. I knew that Kero would never let that happen.

I got off my bed and sat at my desk. I put my hand on my head and thought of my crazy summer. The crazy summer that involved demons, fighting, Raakshyans, a whole new world and a lot of Kero. As crazy and painful those memories were, I cherished them. If I hadn’t gone through that, I would have never found out that I loved Kero.

Keroshan Aarvind. A guy who knew me as well as I did. There was no way that he would let me screw up. I knew that, he knew that… but there was no way I could make my dad understand.

Sure, he told me to stay away from love nicely but if he found out the truth… if he found out that I was in love with him, I would be in serious trouble. To be honest, I didn’t know why my dad still disliked Kero. I doubt that it was because Kero wasn’t a human since my dad was the one who helped my uncle marry my aunt, who was a Raakshyan, like Kero.

      Parents. I sighed.

I shook my head. Either I pass and get a date, or I fail and spend a week without Kero. I stared at the papers…

      Time to study.
