Jessica’s P.O.V.
“Jessica Pierce?” I hear my name and snap back into reality. This happens pretty often. I watch as she scribbles my name on the white board next to the word ‘baseball.’ My dad gave me quite a lecture this morning about “extracurricular involvement,” because student council, green committee and National Honor Society aren’t enough. So, here I am, joining the yearbook committee and now it seems have to attend sporting events as well. I don’t have anything against playing sports, but watching isn’t really my thing.
So, I spoke with Mrs. Briggs, the yearbook coordinator, and I have also been volunteered to give up my lunch today to take the team members’ individual photos and go to the game after school. Yay.
I spend the next four periods in multiple AP classes; anything else would be frowned upon by my father. By the time lunch rolls around, I’m setting up equipment in the gym to take the team’s photos. Players walk out of the locker room one by one in their uniforms. I know all of them, but none of them know me.
There’s Justin Carr, Blake Hudson, and nine other rowdy boys trailing behind them. Finally, out walks a boy I’ve never seen before. For whatever reason he still hasn’t put his jersey on and I can’t help but glance down at his prominent abs. As my eyes meet his, it’s obvious that I was staring. He smiles and winks at me, I feel my cheeks grow red with embarrassment. I’m not going to deny that he is extremely fit, but I was most definitely not ogling over his body. I assume he’s just another egotistical jock that has every girl mesmerized by his Hollywood smirk or careless aura.
I take their pictures one by one. Most of them are too busy yelling back and forth at each other to say anything to me. No surprise there. Although I can’t help but notice the boy in the back, now wearing his jersey, was being pretty quiet. When I finally get to him he is obviously no less cocky than the rest of them.
“You coming to the game tonight?” he catches me off guard.
“It seems that I’m obligated to be there.”
“You don’t seem too enthusiastic,” he smiles.
“Oh, trust me, I’m ecstatic.”
“Thanks for taking my picture.” I nod my head. “By the way, I’m Will.”
“Bye, Will,” I smile as he walks away, unsure if he heard me or not. It’s weird that he talked to me. I start to think he might even be different until I turn around and see him walking with Justin and Blake. Probably not, I realize.
