The song for this chapter is:
I Knew You Were Trouble ~ Taylor Swift
Jessica’s P.O.V.
After dropping the camera off at Mrs. Briggs’s room, I head to my last period of the day, AP Chemistry. I take my usual seat in the corner and open up my book, Wuthering Heights. I usually get to class early so I have a few minutes to read and get ready.
The bell rings as the teacher, Mr. Harrison, walks in and instructs us to open our textbooks. Suddenly, the door opens up and in walks Will, out of breath. With the teacher distracted, the other students begin conversations, but I have no one to talk to so, I listen, instead.
“I’m sorry I’m late, I couldn’t find this room…” Will explained, but I couldn’t hear the rest.
“Hello, Mr. Montgomery. We’ll excuse the tardy for today, but be on time from now on. We work as partners in this class and since Ms. Pierce is alone, you can work with her,” Mr. Harrison points back at me.
“Thank you,” Will mumbled as he took at seat next to me at my table.
Will’s P.O.V.
“So, we meet again, Ms. Pierce?” I ask jokingly.
“My name’s Jessica,” she answers, scribbling notes from her textbook. It’s cute. Her head is already buried in the book and the teacher hasn’t said a word.
“So, can I call you Jess?” As I ask, she stops writing and snaps her head to face me.
“No.” And with that the teacher starts to explain today’s lab. She was awkwardly quiet for the remainder of the class. I tried to get her talk a bit with some teasing but she would just laugh and go back to being quiet.
Toward the end of class I started to pour some chemical into our solution. I turned away for a quick second and before I knew it, the test tube shattered and Jess let out small scream. The whole class turned toward us as Jess and I began to laugh.
Jessica’s P.O.V.
Our laughter was cut short by Mr. Harrison’s booming voice, “It won’t seem so funny when you’re cleaning it up after class and I’m calling both of your parents.”
The bell rings and all the other students begin to clean their labs and pack up. All I can think about is my dad. What will he do? I haven’t gotten in trouble since 10th grade. Why would Will be so careless? My dad will kill me! As if that weren’t bad enough, Will is already walking up to Mr. Harrison.
“I have my first baseball game tonight. I have to be outside for warm ups in 15 minutes, is it okay if I go? I’m really sorry, it was an accident, and I really can’t miss this game,” Will begs. I scoff.
Mr. Harrison hesitates, “Fine, but I need your mom’s phone number so I can call her.” Will rattles off the number as he comes back to gather his things. “What about your mother’s phone number, Jessica?”
My breathing gets heavier as I think about what to say. “Can I just give you my dad’s?” I manage. He nods and I recite the number.
“Sorry I have to leave. It’s no big deal right?” Will walks out the door when I don’t respond.
“No, it’s not a big deal at all…” I say to myself as I finish cleaning the mess.
