I groaned and got out of bed.

I was going to be late for work.

"Annabeth! Get up!"

My mom yelled at me, stomping up the stairs. I threw my pillow aside and dragged myself to the bathroom. As much as I loved smoothies and shit, I hated to work at Jamba Juice.

I got ready and put on my work clothes. I put light mascara on and eyeliner. I grabbed my bag and ran downstairs.

"You're going to be late." My mom called after me. I scoffed.

"Obviously. I have to go, bye."

"No breakfast?"

"Seriously, mom? I'm going to be late."

"Suit yourself. Drive safe, bye."

I grabbed my keys and looked back at her.

"Bye."

-

"Hi. You remember me from the last time I came, right?"

"You're one of the regulars. Kind of, yeah. What do you want?"

I eyed the tall blonde boy. He played with his lip ring and sighed.

"Surprise me."

"Um, okay?"

I turned around and told one of the guys to get one of the most popular drinks. He nodded and I looked back at the boy.

"It'll be two dollars."

He nodded and gave me the money. I handed him the receipt and looked at him again. He got on my nerves sometimes.

He walked to the side and waited for the drink.

"Hey, Beth, you that tall kid there who you just talked to?"

I turned around and looked at one of my friends who worked here. Her name was Clarissa.

"Yeah, what about him?"

"Isn't he cute?"

I rolled my eyes.

"I don't care, Clarissa. Maybe you should ask him out." I said with a smirk.

"Maybe I will." She grinned.

She called his name and handed his drink. She handed him a slip of paper and winked at him.

"Text me sometime."

"Uh--okay, thanks."

I chuckled and looked at his facial expression. He seemed annoyed and shocked at the same time.

I finished my shift an hour later and grabbed my bag. I went outside and sat at one of our tables, scrolling through my texts. I heard footsteps coming toward me, then plopping themselves down in front of me.

"Who invited you to sit with me?" I said without looking up from my phone.

"I did."

I looked up, and saw Luke giving me a cheeky grin.

"I don't know you."

"Maybe we can change that."

I gave him a disgusted look a scrunched up my nose.

"No thanks, I don't want some punk jock flirting around with me."

He pouted.

"Why not? You seem lonely."

I scoffed, and crossed my arms.

"That's rude of you to say to a stranger."

"But you aren't really, Annabeth."
