"That sounded horrible, Luke."
"Shut up, my throat hurts. Can we take five?"
Calum nodded at Luke. Ashton walked over and sat next to me. He groaned and wiped his sweat off with a towel. He looked over at me.
"What's up with you pissypants?"
"Fuck off. I'm annoyed with all of your fighting. It's putting me in a bad mood."
"We're playing around, Beth. It's okay. We act like we hate each other all the time and call each other idiots and shit."
"Doesn't seem like it," I snorted.
Luke slammed the microphone down causing a huge ruckus and screeching to go off in the room. Everybody but Luke covered their ears in annoyance.
"The fuck is wrong with you, Luke?" I screamed.
He gave me a disgusted look.
"Screw off, Beth. Not now."
He walked upstairs and slammed the door. I looked over at Calum.
"Do you boys have menstrual cycles too?"
"I guess Luke only has it. He's being a douche."
I shook my head and put my bag down and headed to the room Luke was in. I walked upstairs and quietly knocked on the door.
"Leave me alone."
"No."
"Get the fuck out."
"No."
"Is that all you can say?"
"No."
"Seems like it. Leave me in peace."
I tried opening the door but it wouldn't budge.
"Let me in you fucking pussy!"
I kicked at the door a couple times and banged on the door repeatedly with my fist. He was being dramatic.
He swung the door open with a pissed expression on his face.
"What the fuck do you wa--"
And that's when my fist collided with his jaw.
-
"Ow, ow, ow," Luke said, clutching on to the side of his face.
"Here." Calum said, handing him an ice pack. My face was flushed with embarrassment and regret.
"I'm sorry."
"It's... It's fine."
"I meant to hit the door, not your face..."
"I know, Beth. It's okay, I was being stupid."
I nodded slowly and looked around my surroundings. Ashton was on his phone, Calum was sitting next to Luke, also on his phone, and Michael, eating something from the fridge.
I walked to the couch and grabbed my bag.
"Um, I should go, I'll let you guys get back to rehearsing."
"Okay, Beth! Bye." Calum called out.
"Bye."
I ran out the door and ran downstairs. I got in my car and sat there for a while, listening to The Cab. I leaned toward the wheel and sighed. He probably hated me.
-
"No way! I can't believe you punched him! You cockblock!"
I scoffed at Clarissa.
"Excuse me? Cockblock? What the fuck?"
"You should've been nice about it."
"I can't be nice when he's being a douchebag about some shit. He was immature; and Calum even said he's the most responsible one in the band." I huffed.
"Whatever. Hey, there he is." She said, turning away from me. I gave her a weird look at turned back around when Luke was towering over the counter. He had a small smile on his face.
"Hi."
"Um. Hi."
"Get me my usual?"
"Sure. How's your, uh, jaw?"
"It's still a little sore, but I'm okay."
I nodded at him and turned around to tell Kyle to get one strawberry smoothie when Luke interrupted me.
"Hey, one--"
Luke reached for my arm, jerking me toward him.
"No. Make it yourself. I want to see you make it and hand me the drink made by you." He said, a little too rudely.
I was too stunned to respond quickly.
"Hello?" He said, waving a hand in front of my face.
"Uh-uh, okay. But I don't do that? I just take orders."
"I don't care, you still know how to make one, right?" He said a bit more softly. He let go of my arm.
"Umm, yeah. Clarissa, take the register."
"Kay." She winked at Luke, and he returned a shy smile.
I went to wash my hands at the sink and dried them off. I started on the smoothie and poured in some strawberries.
"That's a lot of strawberries, don'tcha think Beth?"
I groaned.
"Shutup, this is how you make it. Unless you want to come back here." I said making a face.
"Maybe I will."
"What?"
He looked around. There were barely any people in the café. He jumped over the counter. My eyes widened.
"You idiot," I murmured. He gave me a cheeky grin.
"How do you do this?" He asked. He tried to reach for the milk jug when I slapped him. I pointed to the sink.
"Wash."
He grumbled and headed toward the sink and washed his hands off. I pulled out the instruction book for him.
"Okay, now hit the blend button. Shit--wait!"
That's when globs of the smoothie spluttered everywhere.
"Haha," Luke said, licking the cream off of his fingers. "You look pink."
"What's that supposed to mean?" I growled, heading toward the sink. I looked at the time, and my shift was almost over. I scrubbed off the sticky cream off of my face and hands. Luke stood there watching me.
"It's like you're trying to bathe in the sink." He said laughing. I frowned and flicked some water at him.
"You don't see me washing my hair right now. I have to go home anyways."
He nodded and turned around to clean up the mess we had made. I put the blender in the sink and wiped the counter. I grabbed my bag and headed out the door with him.
"Bye, Beth!"
"See you tomorrow, Clarissa."
I walked to my car when Luke was still following me. I turned around.
"Why are you following me?"
"Maybe we can hang out after you get all cleaned up?"
"I have to meet a friend after this." I lied.
"Oh. Oh, uh, okay. That's cool. Maybe tomorrow?" He said, scratching his neck.
"We'll see. Bye, Luke."
"Farewell."
He turned the other way to his car.
Strange boy.
