Brown hair

"He's a bad daddy! He made me look like the walking dead!!"

I burst out laughing since this is one of my favorite parts. (For those not recognizing the quote, it's from the movie Blended with Adam Sandler).

Emily and I are currently laid across her couches watching the movie with blankets and popcorn spread across the whole floor. I love these nights where I get to hang out with my best friend all day and just talk about the most random thing and be able to just be our weird selfs.

RINGGGGG

We both look at each other then look for our misplaced phones under all of our blankets and pillows set out.

"It's mine!" Emily announces before answering her phone. "Yellow... Uh huh...hmm...mhm...ok..." I gave her a questioning look and mouthed 'what's up?' She simply held up a finger signaling to wait. "Got it! Be right there!" She hung up and quickly started to gather her things.

"Sorry Kat I've got to go over to Jay's" she explained.

"How come? I thought he had that family thing tonight?"

Jay is short for Jayden, our other best friend. He joined our group when he transferred schools three years ago. He asked for help finding his class and on the walk over we all instantly clicked and Emily and I decided to add him to our group.

"Yeah he does, they are at his house right now" she replied still trying to get her things organized.

"Apparently he told them grew had a girlfriend and so he wants me to go over and pretend to be his girlfriend" she commented with an eye roll.

I nodded knowing he always gets himself into situations like this and we somehow we frequently get pulled into his charades.

"Wait how come he didn't asked me?"

...

No answer I turned around and saw Emily flinch but once she saw me she quickly changed it into a thoughtful look.

"What?..." I questioned.

"Nothing!" She answered quickly. "Its just because he...um... He said his girlfriend had brown hair!"

"Emily, we both have brown hair." I gave her a deadpan look.

"Right" she muttered. "He said she had short hair?" She replied hesitantly making it sound more like a question.

We both had the same light brown hair color except hers was short and slightly wavy where as mine was completely straight and came down to my lower back.

"Why are you lying?" I asked, giving her a scrutinizing look.

"I'm not lying, why would you say that?" She answered rather quickly.

"Your doing that thing again"

"Dang it. You know me too well"

Anytime Emily lied, she scrunched her nose. Which gave me a give away to anytime she tried lying to me.

"I'm sorry but you're just going to have to ask Jay later! I have to get going he said it was urgent. Bye, love you!" She yelled, running away with her bags in hand, right out my front door.

"Bye" I replied softly, seeing as she was already gone.

I shut the tv off and sat in silence for a while drowning in my thoughts.

Why wouldn't Jay ask me? And why didn't Emily want to tell me why? Was there something wrong with me? Was something up between them? I shake my head ruling the last one out seeing as I would be able to tell if something was happening between them or they would tell me.

I decided to call it a night heading up to bed. Once I did my night routine and changed into a large t-shirt and baggy shorts, I snuggled up in bed. Before drifting to sleep I decided to text Emily.

Kaitlyn:
Thanks for ditching me tonight.

Emily:
Sorry Kate. I'll make it up to you.

Kaitlyn:
You can't! My heart is forever wounded.

Emily:
Quit being so dramatic! I'll buy you some chicken nuggets, a large fry, AND a sundae.

Kaitlyn:
...

Kaitlyn:
Dang you know me too well. Fine I'll forgive you but I shall be expecting what was promised to me. Oh! And you still have to explain the whole lying thing to me missy. Don't think I have forgotten!

With that I went ahead and texted Jay too.

Kaitlyn:
You owe me for stealing my friend away on our girls night.

Jayden:
Yeah yeah I'll buy you McDonald's.

I put my phone away and smiled to myself, drifting to sleep thinking about the McDonald's my friends now owe me.
