IRIS MARA
chapter four

"Woah, woah, stop right where you are."

I was just about to leave the house after a very awkward encounter with Brandon, when my brother's voice rung out. I stop in my tracks.

"Yes, Nicholas."

He wore a rather stern expression on his face. His arms are folded across his chest as he peers down at me from the top of the stairs.

"Where do you think you're going?" He teases while he comes down the stairs to join me. "Don't tell me you're leaving already? Without telling your favorite brother goodbye?"

"I was actually. I have some important stuff in my life that I need to tend to." I respond, growing more and more impatient by the second. "So can I go now?"

He nods his head. "I suppose you can but don't forget to pack your clothes, makeup, and all that extra stuff girls like to bring with them."

"Oh, don't tell me you're actually following through with your promise, Nick. Are you finally taking me to the Bahamas?"

"Not quite."

My shoulders visibly slump.

"Nick, this better not be another one of your fucking tours."

"I'm sorry, Iris. But you're just such a-."

"Crucial part of the team." I finish for him. "Yes, I know. I know that if I don't participate that you're guys' tour will turn out to be complete havoc. I know that you guys need me to be your alarm and your food dispensary and tie breaker. Trust me, I know."

I settle my arms across my chest. "But I just don't feel like carrying all of you grown ass men on my back, Nick. If I attend another tour, I demand silence when I'm sleeping. No one eats my food. And no pranks, whatsoever. Are we clear?"

He sighs. "Fine."

I smile, reaching forward and ruffling up his hair. "Great. I'm glad we're on the same page."

With those final words, I turn away from him, pulling open his front door.
