Chapter 4

We reached Luke's house at about 6:20. He lived in a small house on a little estate. The house looked a little rough on the outside with a half broken fence surrounding it, but other than that it was alright. I stepped out of the truck and walked towards the front door. Ashton looked around wearily and I could only laugh at his innocence despite his older age. I shot him a "try and pretend your cool look" but it only seemed to make him more nervous. I knocked on the door to be greeted by an already half drunk Luke.

"AY EMS!" he shouted. "COME JOIN THE PARTY PEOPLE" he raised his beer in the air and glanced towards Ashton who stood behind me. "This your neighbour yeah?" He asked

"Yeah, moved in today" I said casually. Luke looked Ashton up and down sizing him up before letting his free hand ruffle up his sticky up blonde hair. He grabbed my hand with his eyes locked on Ashtons and dragged me inside.

"Where is everyone?" I asked

"My room" we walked up the stairs and into his room. Inside was my 5 bestfriends sitting cross legged in a circle on the bedroom floor with various things in their hands. I walked over to Micheal and took a puff of the weed he was smoking.

"That's Ashton, neighbour of em" Luke said gesturing towards him and taking the joint from my mouth and inhaling it for himself.

"Ashton, this is Luke, who you've briefly met" I said pointing towards the blonde next to me. "We have Jen and Brooke. Twins" I said pointing to the identical two girls with long wavy hair. Although they were easy to distinguish as Brooke had a fringe and Jen did not. Ashton smiled and nodded to each and I carried on introducing.

"This is Micheal" I said pointing to the guy with green hair smoking the weed. "And that's Calum and Jess" I said and pointed to the couple. Calum nodded at Ashton and Jess waved at him before locking her hand back inside Calums. I watched as Ashton rocked uneasily back and fourth on his heels.

"Right, now all that's out the way who's ready for some fucking fun?" Luke shouted throwing his arms in the air

"Everyone can we get fucking in the mood!" He shouted once more in which everyone yelled out a simultaneous cheer and hammered down on the floor with hands and feet.

"Right" Luke continued satisfied with the response "Take the drinks take the spliffs we're going bowling"

Everyone looked at Luke like he was insane.

"I thought you said fun?" Micheal said

"Yeah like illegal, maybe something exhilarating?" Jen added. I looked around at everyone and there confused faces. Everyone but Ashton, who actually looked relieved that we were only going bowling.

I smiled to myself knowing that it would never be 'just' bowling with Luke.

"Trust me, when does Lukey let you down on a good night?" He asked the room. They all smiled and nodded between themselves.

"Right we better get going while the nights young"

We left Luke's house and jumped in various vehicles to take us to our local bowling alley. I took Ashton and Luke with me in my old truck. As soon as we shut the doors I could feel the awkwardness lingering in the air. Luke sat drivers side making sure to kiss my cheek as he got in shooting Ashton a quick smirk. Ashton responded in a simple raise of an eyebrow and I could see the competitiveness brewing.

"So Ashton" Luke began as I started driving through the streets of London shortly followed by Calums car. "Where you from" he asked without looking over to him, instead he looked out the window into the distance.

"Sydney" Ashtons voice sounded confused obviously knowing full well he couldn't give a fuck.

"Got a girlfriend?" He asked barely letting Ashton finish.

"Luke.." I started before Ashton replied

"Not yet" he smirked and looked towards me for a quick second before looking towards the road again before Luke could see. I smiled a half smile as I could see Luke getting annoyed.

"So your planning on getting an English chick" He said looking at Ashton this time.

"Yeah, Im really into the girl next door type, you know?" He too turned to look at Luke this time with a slight and cheeky smile lingering on his face.

"Don't push your luck mate you've just got here" He said shaking his head "Try and make friends, don't try and piss us off yeah." He said smiling offering his hand to shake.

Ashton took it with the same slight smile on his face. "Just know the line and you'll be fine" Luke finished and Ashton nodded.

"You'll fit right in with the lads mate" Luke chuckled slapping Ashtons back slightly.
