2-The Fairy's Legend

Jungkook's POV

     "Yoongi, come on help us!" I was picking up all the broken branches from the trees because there was a big storm yesterday, so all the fairies have to help clean the mess for the animals. Well everyone is supposed to help but Yoongi is just sleeping on a tree branch covered with a big leaf.

     "You guys look like you have it covered so, don't bother me. I need my sleep." Yoongi yawned.

     "Why didn't you get sleep when the storm was going on? We all had a day off except for the storm fairies. And I know for a fact that you're not a storm fairy, you're an animal fairy."

     "I'll have you know that my 2 roommates, you and Hoseok, are the loudest couple of idiots in this forest so you don't have the right to question why I'm tired. Besides, I had to play the animals a song on the piano to get them to sleep and animals are rowdy during storms. So shut up and let me sleep" Yoongi threw a pine cone at me that I dodged.

     "Well he's just a ray of sunshine today isn't he, Jungkook?" Hoseok flew next to me after he finished drying the animals with the sun rays (Hoseok is a sunshine fairy). 

     "Yeah, right." I rolled my eyes at him then went back to picking up the twigs and putting them in a recycle pile. I was doing the same with the leaves but I was blowing them into a pile by circling around them while flying. I am a wind fairy and also the prince of the fairies but my mother and father want me to live like a normal fairy so they gave me a hut with 2 other fairies, Yoongi and Hoseok, that are now like  brothers to me.  

     While we were cleaning I looked over at the water and I saw a mermaid swimming with some dolphins.  Hoseok seemed to notice so he fluttered over to me and looked at the mermaid also.

     "Jungkook, you know that there's a rule against talking to mermaids. Why are you so mesmerized by them?"

     "I don't know, I just, I think that there isn't a real reason for this feud. Ever since it started the land got less healthy and the water got less clear. This feud is only hurting the environment that we want to protect." Hoseok sighed and put an arm around my shoulder and led me to some flat rocks where no other fairies were at.

     "Jungkook, you know the legend and why the fairies hat the mermaids, right?" I turned to him and slowly shook my head.

     "I mean, I know about the feud but the real reason behind it is something I don't know."

     "Well, I'm going to tell you a story and I want you to promise me that you'll never meet a mermaid. Okay?"

     "Okay, I promise." 

     "Okay, a little over 200 years ago, there was a wind fairy and a mermaid.  The fairy was obsessed with sea life and he wanted to know as much as he could about it.  So, he would go there every day and observe everything there was to observe. One day he was at the beach collecting data like he always did. He felt calmer at the beach than anywhere else on the land. Anyway, he saw a fin in the distance and he just thought it was a fish of some kind. But it was a mermaid. Fairies knew that mermaids existed, they just never talked to each other and they helped each other with their realms. So, the mermaid saw him and slowly swam up to the shore to talk because just as he was drawn to the sea, she was drawn to the land. They talked for a while and built a secret friendship because they didn't want to cause any trouble.  After a while, the friendship turned into love and they became a couple and would spend a lot of time together. But then one day they both disappeared from their homes and the parents of the male fairy were very worried so they went looking for him in the one place they could think of. The shore.  But when they got there, all they found was some blood that stained the sand, a knife, and a pile of black powder.  The powder was the remains of his wings that were ground up.  They brought the king and queen of the fairies at that time and they examined each item that was found at the beach and everything belonged to their son.  The knife had the mermaid's finger prints on it and their son was pronounced dead. Since the knife had her finger prints on it, it was said that the mermaid killed their son and took his body underwater before grounding up his wings so that he couldn't fly away. From then on, any mermaids that are on our land are taken from the sea and put in a box in the museum up on the sunflower hill. They are dangerous creatures Jungkook and I don't want you to be taken from us. Never involve yourself with a mermaid in any way. Okay?"

     I took a moment to take all of the information from the story in and think about it before I responded. Some parts of the story don't make sense to me. Why would the mermaid kill her lover if she loved him?  

     "Okay, I won't talk to a mermaid or do anything that involves sea life whatsoever. I promise."

     "Good, now can you go pick up the broken twigs at the edge of the forest while I do the rest here? I'll try to get the hibernating bear off the tree to help us too." We both snicked at Hoseok's comment.

     "Okay Hobi. See you for dinner later at the hut?"

     "Yeah see you Kookie!" Hoseok got up from the rock and flew back over to where Yoongi was sleeping. I waited there for a moment and got up and flew over to the edge of the forest to pick up more of the twigs and leaves.  It didn't look like anyone was there with me so I started to sing a song Yoongi wrote to help the animals sleep.  It's name is "Butterfly".

     As I was singing and picking up the twigs I looked at the beach and I thought how could anything that lives in a place so beautiful be so cruel to the point of killing her lover?  I sighed and looked back down to pick up more of the twigs until I heard someone singing another song that I didn't know so I put the twigs I had in my hand down in the pile and flew behind a bush and looked at the beach.  There was a merman sitting on the shore, singing a song.  I didn't know what to do because Hoseok just told me to not talk to any mermaid.  Also, why is he here now? He could easily be caught and be taken and put in a museum. After a while of just sitting and watching him I decided to do something only I would do.

     "Hey."

So I wanted to say thank you to everyone who has read the story, voted, and commented. I really appreciate all the support for this story since this is only my second one that I have written and I'm really new to writing stuff like this kind of stuff. So, thank you all.  Also, I wanted to tell you all that I will be going on vacation for 2 weeks and I won't be able to write a lot so I apologize for that.  I also want to wish you all a happy day, week, month, year, and summer! Also, the song the merman (I think we can all guess who this merman is) was singing is called Serendipity!
