Much of the next day was spent hiking and getting to know each other. Swapping stories, enjoying each other's company with out the pressure of being around anyone. He told me about New Zealand, and I listened with fascination, the place sounded amazing. And for the first time since meeting him it seemed like all my anxiety when a way, I found myself opening up to him. Something I had hard time doing even to my sister. The time passed all to quickly and before I knew it i was getting for bed.
We woke the next morning fairly early, as much as I wished the world had stopped turning and we could just stay there, we couldn't. Karl and I had a film to try and wrap up and lives to go back to. I sat there pondering how this all would work, the whole us dating thing Karl drove with ease.
He reached over taking my hand in his and brought it to his lips, placing a gentle kiss on my knuckles.
"Your over thinking again." He stated with a chuckle.
"What?!" I asked, trying to play off like like I was all cool. It's like he has ESP or something though I swear.
"Your foot." His eyes flicked over to me and back to the road.
"My foot? What about my foot?" I looked down and noticed I had absentmindedly been shaking my foot while it had been crossed over my leg.
"Kid, I'm not sure you noticed but when you over think some part of body starts moving." He explained softly, well shit, however am I going to hide my thoughts now?
"Not always." I came back, surely he was at least somewhat wrong. I mean how can someone who's only known me for such a short time figure that out.
"Yes, always. When your sitting your foot taps, of your standing you move your hands in some fashion." As the city of Portland loomed a head of us, getting closer by the minute I knew he was right.
It was a nervous habit, something very few people notice.
"So what's on your mind, Renee?" His smooth as whiskey voice asked.
"Can I say nothing for now?" I asked honestly.
"Alright." He sighed pulling into the lot where all the cars were parked, he killed the engine and turned to face me. "As long as your honest with me, I won't press you on what's going on in that pretty little head of yours, deal?"
"Deal." I smiled back at him, he looked in the directions of all the trailers before looking back at me. "And we're keep this to ourselves?"
"Yep." He leaned forward, pressing his lips against mine. It was quick, and it sent my heart racing, would it just slow down already? It was just a kiss not a marathon.
We exited the car and wove our way through sea of trailers, stopping by wardrobe and make up. Once we made it to set my nerves were humming, and I tried not to let my hand shake. Maybe keep this on DL was going to be a lot hard then it looked.
"Ren!" Chris shouted as he came a round the corner and saw me. Ah shit, here we go. "Where were you guys?"
"We just got here Chris." I replied slowly trying to appear calm.
"What do you mean 'we'?" He eyed me suspiciously, a smirk slowly crossing his face.
"Karl and I." I replied, crap, crap, what do I say? Someone feed me some lines for a bull shit story.
"Yeah, speaking of which, where did you guys go the other day and last night?" A hint of humor in his voice.
"Mount Hood." I told him casually, turning away to set my ever present cup of coffee down. "Karl wanted to see if he got me away from set if I would calm the heck down."
"Really? So nothing happened?" He asked, sliding up next me, grinning ear to ear. "Come on, you can tell me."
"Fine, something did happen." I sighed, Chris leaned in toward me, excitement on his face. "I fell in a creek and was covered in mud yesterday."
"Ren, what else happened?" He cooed, raising an eyebrow at me.
"I may have walked into a tree." I added.
"That was pretty entertaining." Karl chuckled walking over to us. My heart leapt into my throat, as my head snapped back, looking over my shoulder at him. "Poor kid, couldn't walk a straight line if she tried."
"I can too, it's just gravity wants to give me a hug, and trees like to beat me up." I quipped back, acting offended.
"Is that what happened?" Karl shook his head. "Could of fooled me."
"Not my fault nature likes to beat the crap out of me." I shrugged my shoulders, hoping like hell we were coming off as calm and collected as we were trying to be. Okay, let's re phrase that, let's hope I was coming off that way.
"So, nothing happened? You two just went to the mountain and that's it?" Chris reiterated, his eyes landing on me. Keep it cool Renee, don't buckle.
"Yeah, what do ya think would happen?" I responded, fiddling with edge of my shirt. Karl smirked as he noticed, Chris however seemed to be completely oblivious to my small movements.
Karl raised an eyebrow at me, the corner of his mouth pulling up. I looked down and noticed what I had been doing and let out a sigh in frustration. I stopped and ran my hands through my hair as I walked over to my starting point on set for the scene.
"Stupid nervous tick." I mumbled loud enough for Karl to hear, I got a roar of laughter in response.
"Can I get everyone's attention!" The director yelled. Slowly everyone turned to face him. "Today is going to be the last day of filming, which means we are here till the scene is perfect. I just want to say thank you to everyone involved, this has been a quick shoot, I wish all sets were this way. So everyone to there places."
For a man of few words that was the longest I had ever seen him talk. And I had a sneaking feeling today was going to be a very long day. Alright Renee, let's not mess this up over and over again.
