Loving and Losing; Different only by one letter and a million degreees of pain. - Unknown
Ahyan was sitting on his study when a pair of beautiful hands wearing red bangles wrapped him from behind planting a soft kiss on his cheek. Ahyan turned around and gently pulled Efah on his lap and smiled.
"So, Mrs. you won't let me work, huh?" Ahyan asked and Efah nodded her head to and fro.
"Okay then." Ahyan said with a smirk and in a second Efah got up and ran out of the room laughing, leaving a mesmerized Ahyan behind.
Ahyan's alarm started ringing in full volume. He took his mobile phone and turned off the alarm. His phone screen reflected his smiling face and slowly the smile faded when reality hit him when he realised that it was just a dream and he would never ever experience any happiness in his real life.
A lone tear escaped his eyes, vanishing in his hairs because of his sleeping posture. He started feeling uncomfortable, his breath got stuck in his chest and he got up and sat straight. Why was this happening to him?
May be that was the thing about pain; it demands to be felt.
Pain has a unique characteristic with it. You can actually feel it in your chest and stomach when something really hurts your feelings.
'If she is not supposed to be in my life then why does she occupy every cell of my body which still screams her name even after what she did to me......Why?' Ahyan thought pulling his hair in frustration. He had so many questions and all were to be remained unanswered.
But, till when?
He kept sitting like that for almost an hour until Faiz barged into his room shouting at the top of his voice.
"Ahyan, Ahyan where are you man" Faiz barged into Ahyan's room shouting.
"What happened Faiz, why are you shouting" Ahyan spoke in his sleepy voice.
"What is this?" Faiz questioned angrily showing a bottle.
"These are sleeping pills. You are a doctor too, why are you asking me then." Ahyan said taking the bottle of sleeping pills from his friends' hand and putting inside his drawer.
"Why do you need sleeping pills Ahyan. and why was I not informed about it." Faiz spoke up again.
"You know the reason why, Faiz." Ahyan said with a straight face entered his bathroom slamming the door behind him.
"I am sorry, Faiz." Ahyan spoke at the breakfast table.
"Bro, since when have you started apologising to your brother?" Faiz asked.
"Since I started behaving with you in a manner I shouldn't." Ahyan spoke with guilt laced in his tone.
"Ahyan, I don't want you to apologise. It's okay I understand whatever you are going through. If you want to do something then please take care of yourself and try to move on." Faiz said.
Ahyan nodded his head and kept stirring his spoon in the bowl.
"You are still stuck in the past and until and unless you try to move on you will not be able to. Past is called past for a reason because it's meant to be forgotten." Faiz said puuting a spoonfull of cornflakes in his mouth.
This had become normal. Every now and then Ahyan would lose his temper and then feel guilty for his behaviour. Faiz on the other hand tried his best to cope up with Ahyan's changing behaviour for in Australia they both were each others family as there was no one else to look after them."
------------------------
" So what's the plan next?" Faiz questioned Ahyan entering the restaurant. Getting no reply from Ahyan, Faiz looked at the direction where Ahyan was lost. There was a muslim couple, the man was helping his pregnant wife to get up from the chair. This almost had become a routine for Faiz, Ahyan would see someone and then get lost in space thinking about his life which was like a barren land where no new flowers could grow.
"Ahyan, move aside. You are standing at the door." Faiz almost whisper yelled at Ahyan pulling him away from the door and then dragging him to an empty table.
"Bro, Haroon will be joining us in a while. Please change you mood if you don't want him to uestion you." Faiz informed Ahyan and Ahyan nodded agreeing him. Just then Haroon, one of Faiz's and Ahyan's colleague entered with a bag in his hand looking for them. Faiz waved his hand to indicate im where they were sitting and Haroon came and sat with them with a huge smile plastered on his face.
They ordered food and had a chit chat about their training and other trivial things. After finishing their food Faiz asked Haroon about his smile which was never leaving his face.
"I am getting married next week, Alhamdulillah. And you both have to come. And Ahyan don't even try to excuse yourself like you always do." Haroon said.
"Okay buddy." They both said in unison and hugged Haroon giving their best wishes before they left.
Throughout the ride to their apartment Ahyan was quiet and this wasn't a new thing now. Ahyan had changed, he wasn't his usual self except when he tried to avoid the questions of other people for his bad mood. Their separation had made him good at faking his laugh, his smile and his normal attitute. It was only Faiz who knew the truth and his heart pained because he was unable to do anything for his best friend. The cure to Ahyan's pain was itself the reason for his grief.
Ahyan and Faiz's training was over and now they were to be working as doctors. The one who was himself in pain was now to treat people.
But till when?
Will he be able to find a cure for his aching soul?
