Xander
"Arabella, I'm sorry, it was before I ran into you-" I begged, trying to focus her attention on me instead of the letter. That stupid piece of parchment would ruin everything.
Her eyes switched from golden to icy blue, her dilemma evident on that beautiful face of hers.
"Is it true?" She said lowly, gripping the piece of paper. Her body shook and I only hoped it was from nervousness, and not anger. Cause if it was anger, I was screwed.
Getting kicked in the balls was a killer, and I don't think I could handle a second time in one day.
"It was before I realized what you meant to me." I repeated, keeping my tone steady and slowly walking backwards.
"Answer the fucking question."
I paused, hoping she'd ask another question. But her stare on the ground continued, and I sucked in a sharp breath. "Yes, its true. But I don't know what to do about it now, ever since you came into the picture-"
Her head snapped up towards me, anger and betrayal striking fear into me. Chills blossomed all over my body. She wanted more of an explanation. So, with shaky words and a quick glance at Grace, I continued. "I came to your territory to scout an attack. It was the one day of the year that everyone would be busy celebrating your coming of age. I was leaving, I had what I needed," I sucked in a breath, hoping she'd believe me."-until I saw you."
Arabella shook her head, soft white waves bouncing around.
"You and your whole pack... have been gearing up for war, getting high on the idea of killing my family." She said. Melanie gasped behind Grace, not helping my situation. But then Arabella continued. "You said you weren't like the stereotypical rogues, that I could trust you. You told me you wanted peace- equality. And now?"
My mate's eyes were confused and heartbroken, for what I assumed was the third time today. She had gone through so much in only 24 hours, and all of it had been because of me.
"Your people are more than ready to kill their 'Luna', me-"
"I would never let that happen." I stammered, making my hands into fists. The tension in the room was unbelievable and starting to make me antsy.
"Really? Cause a few days ago you were itching to." She spat back, tears welling up in her eyes. "All of this-" her arms motioned all around. "-This, I can't handle. We are arch enemies. Not just us, but our packs. And our union will mean absolute shit to them."
"I was only planning on invading because you Father has over a hundred of my pack members locked up in the underground cellars. They have done nothing wrong, and they are mine to protect. I've tried diplomatically to get them released, but you parents insist my throne is fraudulent and I am an illegitimate rogue- that I have no right to speak to them."
"Because the moon goddess-" Arabella growled, but was cut off by Grace.
"If the moon goddess only saw death and destruction with the Rogue Nation pack, then she would've eliminated us long ago. But she saw Alpha Xander." My Beta proudly said as she leaned against the door frame, squinting her eyes at my mate. Even if she was backing me up, I didn't like the look she was giving my mate. It was like a threat.
"He doesn't even have alpha blood!" Melanie yelled back at Grace.
"To hell with your alphas blood!" I barked, gaining the attention of everyone in the room. "I have led this pack for years without it!"
