"She's going to tell my mom," Melanie sighed angrily.
She was leaning against the wall, right next to the newly demolished dresser. Her arms were crossed,
"I'm pretty sure she already knows," I dismissed, hurriedly trying to put my shoes on. Xander had gone to prepare a car and find Grace. I told him we were leaving immediately. My hands were shaking as I tied the laces of running shoes. I had changed my clothes into activewear. I was preparing for something, everything. Or maybe nothing? I wasn't sure, my mind was everywhere. But I wanted to be ready, just in case.
"Do you think she's going to pull you over the border?"
My head shot up, eyes squinting at her. I hadn't thought of that...
"No," I said shakily, feeling even more anxious not that she planted the idea in my head. "She... She wouldn't do that."
"You sure?" Melanie persisted, and I scowled.
"If you think I'm not going to trust my mother- your Luna-"
"Hey now," She interrupted, pushing herself off the wall and raising her hands in the air. "I'm not saying anything. I just want you to be prepared for everything. 'Cause if you get pulled over, then I gotta come too. And there's no way in hell I'm gonna 'save you'".
"It doesn't matter what I think she's going to do because I need her," I growled, straightening and squaring my shoulders.
Yes. I needed help. I needed guidance. I was a fool to think I could solve this on my own, I was only 18. I was trained in everything royalty, but this couldn't be solved by polite words and knowing which fork to use at dinner.
I sighed, closing my eyes and counting to ten. I could feel the tension in my body, causing me to want to shut down. But I couldn't afford that right now. I needed to woman-up and face my issues. Nobody else would do it for me, and I was supposed to be a Luna. I can't be acting like this.
Get moving. My wolf warned.
Right. Get moving
I pulled back my white hair, tying it in a bun and slipping on a hoodie. I still had to hide my hair, my identity.
I could hear soft thuds in the distance, muffled behind the door. They came closer, coming upstairs towards the room.
"Move from the door," I warned Melanie, watching as she only had seconds to move before Xander swung open the door.
"You could've smushed me!" Melanie scowled, sending him a death glare. Her hands folded into fists as if she was about to attack him.
He rolled his eyes at her, his face mimicking her face. Then he turned his attention to me.
I felt tingles rise from my toes and up my legs. The electric feeling tickled up my spine, and raised hairs on my neck. His eyes flashed with gold as they wandered from my face to my neck, where his mark was. His nose flared, his eyes glazed over with lust. I could feel his emotions; lust, need, and affection. My heart began picking up its pace, beating against my chest like a drum.
The evens of last night flooded my mind.
Melanie cleared her throat and looked between us, the sides of her mouth moving down in a grimace. "Can we focus on the task at hand."
"Right," I blinked, feeling my face burn in a deep blush. He made me lose myself, even in times of peril. I called on the moon goddess, praying for the ability to focus. "We have to leave."
Xander swallowed, his Adam's-apple bobbing up and down. He closed his golden eyes, and when he opened them again, there were the soft caramel color I loved. "The car is ready."
