I was cleaning the reception table and watching Cody pace back and forth nervously. From what I heard, two of our friends, Barbara and Bob were coming to visit during Spring Break. Barbara was my chemistry class partner back in middle school. Bob was big on comic books that I lent him the ones that I wasn't reading much.
Caleb arrived in the Lobby and on noticing Cody pacing anxiously, he gave me a questioning look.
"What's up with Cody?" he asked just as Zack approach our friend.
"You'll see," I replied gesturing a hand at the twins.
"Oh hey, is Bob here yet?" Zack asked as Cody stopped pacing, "After being stuck here with you I can't wait to have some real guy time."
"I'd respond to that insult, but I'm too busy worrying about how I'm gonna break the news to Barbara?" Cody asked with hints of anxiety already built up.
"Right! Yeah!"
"What news?" Caleb asked curiously.
"About Bailey and me. That we're practically a couple," Cody replied.
"Wait, when did that happen?" I asked knowing that back in Boston, Cody and Barbara were nuts for each other.
Zack shook his head, "That's not news, that's a fantasy."
"The point is, Bob and Barbara, are coming to Miami to visit us for Spring Break and I'm gonna have to break Barbara's heart," Cody replied sadly.
"No, you don't. How do I explain this? Okay, you don't step outta one canoe until you're firmly in another one. Preferably, a hotter canoe, whose parents are out of town a lot."
"Look, even if I were willing to consider that, there is no way I can hide the heat between Bailey and me."
"You two wouldn't have heat if you were in a sauna, that was on fire, in a volcano, on the sun."
"Why not just tell Barbara the truth, plain and simple?" I suggested.
"You know the saying, 'The truth sets man free,'" Caleb added agreeing with me.
Zack and Cody turned to us like we were completely out of our minds. Before any of them could say anything, Bailey walked up to us carrying a duffle bag.
"Hey guys," she smiled, "Well, I'm off to visit my cousin Cletus' gator farm."
"You're not gonna be here this weekend?" Cody asked in shock.
"Nope. I'll be wrestling gators. By the way, I'm supposed to tell a friend my blood type is O Negative."
Bailey then walked away. Caleb and I waved goodbye and for her to have a great time.
"Dude! Your old girlfriend is coming and your imaginary one is leaving. You're golden!" Zack grinned enthusiastically.
"Yet again, you should be honest with her Codes. Honesty is one of the things that keeps relationships together," I expressed.
