Quick A/N
I often tend to rush my oneshots in fear that they will be too long or that they'll take forever to write. I let this one flow naturally though, which led to a bit of a longer one shot, and I also think the writing quality is better too. Hope you enjoy! This ones for you guys!
•THIRD PERSON POV•
He isn't questioning. He knows he likes guys and he's more than ok with that. But Jonah isn't Gay.
"Hey Jo! I was about to ask you if you're coming to Daniel's party on Saturday, but I've been assigned to make sure you're coming no matter what." Jonah rolls his eyes as he starts up the car, waiting until Jack slams shut the passenger door before lifting his foot off the break.
"I'm not even going to argue," Jonah replies, not taking his attention off the road.
"Well that's great cause Corbyn's gonna be there." Jack giggles as Jonah accidentally presses on the gas pedal a bit too hard, causing the car behind them to honk. His face turns red as he stops at a light and takes the opportunity to glare at Jack.
"I don't like Corbyn," Jonah groans, trying to ignore his best friend's smirk.
"I never said you did. You basically just admitted it yourself," Jack replies smugly, crossing his arms as if he has achieved a goal of sorts, which fairly, he has.
"Not true! I don't like him any more than I would like a friend, and that's that." They drive in silence for a minute before Jack decides, much to Jonah's dismay, that he just has to open his mouth again.
"The fact that I walked in on you two making out at that party last month says otherwise."
It's this moment that Jonah regrets not investing in an ejector seat for the passenger side of the car. At this point, his face is an even brighter red than the fire truck speeding passed them on the freeway.
"We were both drunk as fuck! You even told me you slept with Zach at that party!" Jonah is quick to pull the 'too many beers' card, though he knows that there was much more to their lip locking than just the alcohol, at least on his part.
"Don't you dare bring Zach into this," Jack shoots back defensively, not wanting Jonah to revisit the topic of his own crush, though he knows he's being quite hypocritical. They've already talked about him and Zach though, and considering how awkward the conversation was, he doesn't want that topic to resurface.
"You know what? You can believe whatever you want to believe, but my love life is my business. Go fuck Zach or something."
Jack doesn't even bother responding with more than a dirty look this time as he's realized that he has already lost the argument. Thankfully, the tension doesn't have too much time to build up as Jonah pulls his car up to the front door of Jack's two story house. The place is a lot nicer than Jonah's, though the older of the two barely even realizes it since he's rarely at his own home anyways. Jack slings his bag over his should before opening the car door and hopping out onto the pavement without a word. Just as he's about to enter his house and Jonah is about to put the car in reverse, the curly haired male makes a final attempt at having the last word by making an obscene hand gesture at Jonah through the car window. The latter just scrunches up his nose before flipping Jack the bird and speeding away.Though he may deny his crush on Corbyn to Jack (even though the younger boy knows undoubtedly that it's a lie), he has fully accepted the small, or not so small, crush, in and of itself. He still believes that he has no chance with the fake blonde, though. He could stare into the boy's ocean eyes for hours, just watching the way they sparkle at the mention of space or robotics, just as they do when they reflect the sunlight glinting through the classroom window. But he doubts that Corbyn actually likes guys in a romantic manner, and that the make-out at the party was just a result of the lanky teens ingesting too much booze, as they are both young and clear lightweights. He would have thought that if Corbyn was in any way interested in dating a guy, he would have come out a while ago, as there are plenty of guys at their high school who would jump at the prospect of dating the nerdy blonde.
Some may say that by thinking this, Jonah is being rather hypocritical. He himself hasn't 'come out', despite the fact that he likes guys, not girls. But once again, he doesn't feel the need to. All that'd do is stick a permanent label on his chest reading: "I'm gay!"
And that's the thing.
He isn't.
Jonah never has, nor ever will believe in labeling himself or others. He feels that he should be able to like whoever he wants to like, and do it on his own terms. Why should he have to make some huge announcement? Everyone would just end up making a huge deal over the fact that he prefers dick over boobs, and he wouldn't understand what all the fuss would be about. He's just a kid trying to get in a normal relationship. A normal relationship without a label.
