It must've been one or two in the morning when the only remnants of Jesse Lingard's party were seven people gathered around the firepit in his backyard. It was safe to say that everyone was at least a little bit tipsy, or in Emma's case, completely smashed. Before tonight, she had been a newbie to hard liquor... it was safe to say she was a veteran by the time the night ended.

Still, she was huddled under Logan's arm, looking peaceful as ever and dozing in and out of sleep. L caught a glimpse around the circle — at Rebekah who kept shuffling closer to Jesse, at Marcus whose eyes were glued to the unnamed blonde chatting beside him, at Trent who then gazed at Lennox — before someone grabbed her arm, bringing her thoughts back down to Earth. She turned beside her to see Ruben lounging beside her on the rather ironic loveseat.

"What?" she stumbled out.

He paused a moment, furrowing his eyebrows as he stared at her. "You alright, mate?"

"Fine," she promised. "Just lost in thought."

"About me?" he asked, cheekily tilting his head to the side and extending his arm behind her as he shuffled closer.

Lennox leaned forward, her face mere inches from Ruben as her hand came up to cup his cheek. She could hear his breathing hitch slightly. His dark brown orbs never left her light blue ones until they started fluttering shut as Lennox's head turned to the side, whispering, "You wish," softly into his ear.

He leaned back, completely overtaken with emotion, blood rushing through his body. "That is just cruel, Rousseau," he breathed out.

"You love it, Loftus-Cheek," she retorted, smirking to herself until the inevitable question came from Emma, who sat opposite the pair.

"So, like, have you guys fucked?"

Ruben was suddenly choking on his drink. Lennox shot Emma a look of warning, though the intoxicated girl didn't even register it. "Seriously. The sexual tension between you guys is painful. Just do the deed and get it over with."

Lennox rolled her eyes. "It's not that simple, Em."

"Why not?"

"Because we've got history," Lennox replied. She hated that as an excuse — "we've got history" — but she used it nonetheless. It wasn't like it wasn't true; her and Ruben did have history, practically their whole life's worth.  "Excuse me."

She hopped up from the loveseat, making her way into the kitchen. Ruben had followed her in, hopping up onto the kitchen island as she downed a glass of water. "You okay, Len?"

She took a deep breath. "Fine." A moment of silence fell between them before Lennox spoke again. "I just don't like people prying into us, that's all." After a moment of silence, Lennox decided that the party was over for her. "I should go."

As the gentleman he was, the one Lennox remembered him being, he offered to take her home and for some reason, Lennox agreed to it.

And that decision would change her life.
