Lucas's Break

Lucas entered the apartment panting and breathing harshly, Riley was on the couch next to maya while josh twiddled with Maya's hair, the age eighteen had come and they were off to college soon.
"What's it babe?" Riley asked Lucas, walking over to her breathing hard boyfriend
"I want to talk to you maya." He said staring at the blonde who was laughing at something josh said
"What's it huckles?" She asked
"I really wanna talk....alone." He looked around, Riley's eyes gave a snap.
"You wanna talk to me? You talk to all of us ranger rick!" Maya grinned, Lucas's eyes filled with frustration and anger
"Maya please!" Lucas said through gritted teeth
"Say it to all of us Lucas." Riley said sternly, Lucas's eyes filled with even more anger and he seemed on the verge of shouting
"Can you fucking come out?" Lucas breathed
Topanga who sat next to Cory; her eyes widened.
"What you saying cowboy?" Josh laughed
"I WANNA TALK TO MAYA." Lucas yelled, anger taking his better side
"Woah. She is my girlfriend, I think I'll like to listen to what you gotta say." Josh said, his eyes filling with anger too.
"FINE! MAYA HART." He panted then he yelled again,
"I AM IN FREAKING LOVE WITH YOU!"
Maya's eyes widened, Josh's hand took hers protectively, Riley stared. Topanga wasn't obviously able to comprehend and Cory got up and left the room.
"What?" Maya whispered loud enough to cut through the silence
"I am in love with you maya, I was young and I did not know this fairytale relationship with Riley won't work out, I just wanted to throw this off my chest, I- I am sorry." Lucas said
There was silence for the next to minutes
"Get out." Riley whispered looking at Lucas
"Riles." Maya interrupted
"Get out." Riley said even more loudly
"Riley, Can I talk to him?" Maya asked louder than Riley
Riley's eyes darted to maya in disbelief
"What?" She snapped
"I wanna talk to him." Maya whispered
"You don't." Josh piped
"Shut up Joshua." Lucas mumbled in his head.
"Out of my house then maya, not him inside here." Riley snapped, Maya stared then nodded and walked out. Lucas followed.

"What the fuck was that?" Maya asked once they were in the dimly lit gallery
"I am sorry, I shouldn't have." Lucas muttered
"Yes you shouldn't, but why'd you do it?" Maya asked
"I am in love with you maya, we need each other, we complete the opposing personalities in each other and we are not at all as awkward as Riley and me." Lucas whispered more to himself than her
Maya's heart melted, she realised now she won't have to pretend to love josh, or not pretend she hadn't seen josh cheating on her multiple times, but her bff. Her best friend Riley? What about her? She needed Lucas always for herself, she had Lucas to herself and now this?
"Huckleberry." Maya whispered, Lucas looked down at her to see a tear trace her milky cheek skin
He hesitated but reached out and wiped it with his thumb, and cupped her cheek just for the feel of its softness, she didn't push him away or protested in any way.
She closed her eyes.
He moved closer so they had inches of distance.
"I am sorry." He whispered
"Don't be." Maya replied in a sigh and looked up in his soft green eyes
He leaned in and their lips met, she replied, responding with her hand tangling in his hair and his hand snaking around her waiste.
"Wrong." She whispered in the kiss, her lips still tangled in his melting away.
"You care?" He asked, pulling her closer to himself
"No." She said and another tear dropped this time with guilt. Ashamed as she was.
But the kiss lasted, and for some reason lucaya rose again.
