Nyeupe.

That's all I see.

I look around. Curtains guard my left. A glass wall guards my right. Outside I see someone.

Mama.

Suddenly, Nyeusi.

The roar. The pain.

I wake up, sweaty, stilling the nyeupe room.

A woman walks in. Based on the uniform, she seems to be a muuguzi. "So you have finally woken up. How are you feeling?"

I hesitate. " Fine... I guess."

The muuguzi starts to say something, but is interrupted my Mama rushing in, crying. "Mtoto!"

She hugs me. I wince. Noticing she lays me gingerly back on the bed. She turns to the muuguzi. "Can you fix him?!"

" I'm sorry m'am. There's nothing I can do."

She leaves the room, I turn to Mama. "What's wrong?"

Crying, she looks to the foot of my bed. I follow her gaze, and gasp.

My right leg...is not underneath the blanket.

I stare in silence.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

How am I going to ride?

What will become of Maalum? Ustari?

What will become of me?

My mom sighs. She looks at the time. "Well, I guess we'd better get ready."

I stare at her, confused. "For what?"

"Oh. I almost forgot...

Happy 14th Muwakubwa."
