Chapter 16 "Lies"

Jungkook POV

I couldn't do anything but just freeze there, looking at her and that lighter.

I really hated staring at her with that thing.

After much hesitation, I ran over to her, with a glare.

"Jungkook? Did you need something?"
"The lighter. Hand it over to me."
"W-what..?" She said, reluctantly.

"I said give me the lighter now."

She handed it over so slowly that I had to grab it from her.

I then threw it to the ground and destroyed it.

"J-Jungkook?"

She was at the verge of tears.

"Do NOT use that stupid trash again."

As she started to object me, I started throwing harsh words at her.

"YOU GAVE ME THAT!" She screamed.

"I don't care whether I gave you that. I don't care whether you hated me and never told me it was you the whole time. I just can't believe you didn't bother, y/n.."

"Jungkook, that's a bunch of lies! I do still care about you, what is wrong with you?!"

"...Now you're saying a bunch of lies."

As classes started, I tried to avoid her as much as I could but when we were forced to talk, I just spat fire from my tongue.

Sigh.. I can't belive her.

Your POV, after school

You don't know what's wrong with Jungkook. All that he said in class was "that lighter is stupid, that lighter is blah blah blah"...

You know that he thought that you hated him, which is why you did not tell him about you.

"He probably feels rejected.." You muttered.

"Y/n, are things going okay with.. you know.. him?" Asked Nayun, referring to Jungkook.

"Yes, it's okay.. it's probably all a misunderstanding."
"I see.."

As Nayun left, you took out your phone and received a message from Jimin.

Jimin: hey y/n, what's wrong with Jungkook? He didn't reply to any of us once he got home and locked himself in one of the rooms. Did something happen today?

You: he.. needs space to think about stuff.

Jimin:ohh I see.

You: .. Hey Jimin, can you tell me one thing.. does Jungkook have a hate for the "lighter" superstitions?

Jimin: Yes, he hates them. He found them as bad luck. But he did believe in them before... until..

All went wrong when he wished for his childhood friend to return.

You: .... what happened?

Jimin: you see, Jungkook had a childhood friend, never said who,  but he said that he wished for his friend to see him again. He said that lots of things happened afterwards... but he didn't really specify what..

You: okay. Thanks Jimin.

You then texted Jungkook to meet at the park.

Jungkook POV

I headed over to the park and saw y/n, admiring the view.

"...yah, what do you want?" I said.

She immediately stood up and faced me.

"Oh! Um.. I needed to ask you something.."
"What is it? I don't deal with idiots at this time.." I said, looking at my watch.

She then rolled her eyes.

"I was told that you wished for your childhood friend to see you again, is that me?"

.... How?

"No." I lied.
"I used to be your best friend. Stop lying"

"..yes. It's you."
"So what happened? Why did everything go wrong?"

I sighed before continuing.

"My parents caught me in the act of doing that. In the end, they told me that these lighters will never work and told me that you'd probably forget about me. I didn't believe them.  I started sending you alot of letters but there wasn't a reply, I indeed got really mad about it. One day, I tried to confess to you by note. But of course there was no reply. And I even tried to see that they whether they have been received my you, and they were. So I thought you just hated me and I belived that.

The following year? My parents died in a bus accident.

I was so depressed that not even my hyungs could comfort me. I gave up on everything. I threw away my stupid lighter thinking it was all bad luck."

She was in the state of shock.

"..Jungkook.. I know I received those letters.."
"And? Did you even bother reading them?"
".."

Your POV

Being honest to yourself, you knew that you moved on from Jungkook while he was away. You did have lots of heartbreaks by other people. You knew that you moved on a long way from him and neglected him, that you didn't even bother to read those letters, you just found them as a spam annoyance. You didn't care about how he felt. You started wishing less about his return.

In the end, you realised that not only did he break his promise to you, but you also broke your promise to him.

You felt like a hypocrite blaming him.

"..Jungkook. I admit, I neglected you."
"... I knew you hated me."
"But that doesn't mean that I hate you."

As he turned around, you pulled him in for an unexpected hug.

"..I'm so sorry"
