LEAH

"What the hell is this?"
Her face was calm but her voice held an edge to it, as if daring the offender to lie at her face.

It had been a week since the assassin's fiasco and the palace couldn't calm down even with her presence. Mostly because the organizer of the palace was currently knocked out and was not showing signs of waking up. Next was her nightmares were getting frequent, without Draco to calm her down most nights were sleepless creating bags under her eyes. The moment she saw the mark of a slave on the assassin, unpleasant memories which she would try to erase resurfaced in her mind.

The sickly smell of perfume was vivid in her mind, phantom hands were touching every part of her body. She had learned to endure them whenever she had company but when she was alone she would always break down and plead for the the disturbing presence to leave her alone. She knew it was all in her mind but it would feel so real that she would shock herself until she would faint, she preferred the  nightmares over the phantom hands. It was years since the last time the phantom hands had plagued her, but seeing the slave mark it had started all over again.

"Reports of the assassin who has killed over hundreds of nobles all over the continent, it matches up!"

She studied the papers dumped over her by Je'hel. The short woman had suddenly barged in her office yelling 'Eureka!' and dumped the papers on her table. She had heard rumors of this assassin being warned by her allies but she never gave it much thought seeing as not a single assassin has broken into her palace thanks to Draco and Mina's strategies.

The assassin was described as female with silver hair and blood red eyes, she furrowed her brows not liking where this was going to.

"Well we've caught 'her' as the reports stated, but this isn't your expertise and you don't seem to care about this kinds of things." she asked the petite woman who did nothing but lock herself in her towers either doing magical research or making new clothes. Plus things like this were either hers or Draco's department

"Well Draco's always been doing my accounts lately, I just wanted to do something in return. Really he always does everyone's jobs that it's taking a toll to his body. If it weren't for that then he would be awake by now."

She agreed, that brother of hers seem to think that one delay would bring down the country. He would always complain and scold them for being lazy bums then would do thier work himself, the least she could do was approve petitions, go out on diplomatic meetings or collaborate with military strategies. She would always tease him into marrying her to share the workload and he would sputter and blush furiously and would ignore her for the whole day. Really his brother's sister complex proved to be hers and the generals amusement most of the time.

"Is he not awake yet?"

Je'hel seemed put a hand on her head, her brows furrowed.

"Oh he just woke up, wait what is he wearing?" Je'hel's face seemed scandalized and she vaguely remembered the nightgown she dressed him in as a joke.

Crap

She was sure Draco would turn half of the corridors black searching for answers.

Well the palace could use some changes... I guess

"Anyway, looks like we've caught, according to these reports one of the best assassin of the century. What will we do to him knowing that he's a slave?" Je'hel asked helping herself to one of the hard candies sitting at her desk.

"Well what country he's from and his master who sent him."

Because really he wanted to gut this so called Master of the assassin

"And what if his master is a political figure? And if he is, what if it's from one of our allied countries?"

It was unspoken but both women knew that waging war was a big possibility.

"Je'hel did you forget what most of us and what most of this country was formerly compromised off?"

"Of course not" the small woman was avoiding her gaze from her queen but her eyes were steely, her lips pressed in a firm line

"Then you do know that I wouldn't care, if they did send this assassin then the alliance is forfeited. Close relations or not, I'm pretty sure my reason would be justified if I did attack them."

"But what of the assassin? I know you won't kill him after knowing he was a slave."

"He could prove to be useful, he managed to survive that kind of magic and I'm sure you'll gain a lot from studying him."

How cruel of you, you keep the child alive just for him to be some sort of lab rat

" You'll need a stronger reason, you know how much the people love you. Even if you let him live, I doubt they'll take it well seeing as the news spread on how he tried to kill you and knocked Draco out."

"Draco did that to save him."

"And do you think they would see it that way? Mina had to guard the child to avoid assassinations, ironic isn't it? He's a assassin but people try to assassinate him as well."

She frowned, she found it disturbing on how much the people love her, but it did prove to have some advantages from time to time. But her treasury was getting full from the gifts she was receiving everyday. She was afraid they would turn her into some sort of idol and worship her, that was something she hated the most. That people would see her as some sort of perfect human being and think that there was nothing she couldn't do. Yes she wasn't like any average human but she was still at the same time, human.

"And speaking of Draco, he probably didn't realize it but not only did he cancel the magic of the jewel but..."

She faced her general, she didn't voice it out but she knew there was something that Draco did other than forcing his magic onto the jewel. She didn't become queen because of lineage or looks for that matter.

"He forced a very specific part of his soul on the child, he probably did it unconsciously."

"And? I knew there was something else, but why does your face seem troubled."

It saved the child but why does she look like something worse happened?

"Do you remember Mina and Setta? Specially Draco. If the souls aren't compatible then there would be a possibility that both souls would cancel each other out and fade from this world. They were lucky, there was a small possibility that they would survive and even if they did look what they ended up like. "

" But the assassin is alive right? "

" Very much, healthy even. "

" Are you saying that for some reason a miracle happened and someone was compatible with my brother's soul that was already merged with someone else? " disbelief clear in her tone.

Draco's soul isn't purely his anymore and finding someone compatible with his current soul would not exist, specially with that inside of him

" Not only that, he sent Azrael. "

" WHAT?! "
