Never Gonna Be The Same

Chapter 7

Maeve sat on her couch, watching Finn's match. An unknown numbered appeared on her screen so she let it go to voice mail. After the match, Maeve listened to the voice mail.

"Hey Maeve, it's dad. I wanted to talk to you. I'm coming state side in a few days and was wondering if you would like to meet for coffee or lunch or something. Also if your son is around, I'd like to meet him too. If that's okay with you two. I'm bringing my friends, Fintan and Leonie. They have a son that I'd like you to meet. His name is Fergal and he's very nice. I just met him a few months ago when he came to Ireland. I think you two would get on very well. Uh, call me back when you get a chance and talk to you later. Bye love." Maeve deleted the message and called the unknown number back.

"Hello?"

"Hi this is Lloyd's phone correct?"

"Yeah he's my fiancee. Who is this?"

"Maeve, his daughter."

"Oh! Hi Maeve, I'm Rowan. I think your father wanted to wait until we were back in Florida to tell you about the engagement."

"Don't know. I was returning his call."

"Oh. He went out with his buddies for a few rounds of golf. I can tell him that you called."

"Thank you."

"Before I go, I want you to know that your dad feels really guilty for what he did to you and your mother. I don't know the specifics but I do know that he feels really guilty about it."

"He left us on our own when I was pregnant."

"Oh. You were younger weren't you?"

"Yeah."

"Maybe that's why he does so much for our kids."

"He has other kids?"

"There's my two and our one that we had together. There's my oldest who's 18 then there's my second child she's 16 then our youngest who's 10. And you're 33 right?"

"Yes. What do you mean that he does so much for your children?"

"My second oldest thought she was pregnant and he was taking her to get testing done. He was excited for a grandchild. She wasn't pregnant but he still was so excited for it. I think he regrets not taking the chance the first time around."

"I don't know if Bryan wants to meet him."

"Well we aren't landing there until July 30th. So you have some time to talk it over and think about it. And don't forget that he's bringing his friends so you can meet their son, Fergal."

"Ok. How long are you guys going to be here?"

"Until September, why?"

"Just wondering." 

"Alright, I'll talk to you later. Bye!"

"Bye." Maeve hung up and sent Bryan a text.

'Hey your grandpa is coming to visit next week. Wanna meet him with me?'

'If you're going then I guess I can go too. What is this all about?'

'Don't know. He wants me to meet his friends' son, Fergal.'

'What about Finn?'

'I'm going to tell him that I'm with someone now. Kind of.'

'Alright. I'll be home soon. Do you need anything from the store?'

'No thank you. I have everything right now. Just come home safely please.'

'Yes ma'am.' Maeve smiled at her phone as she turned to face time Finn.
