*Tuesday March 5, 2013*

Seven in the morning is way too early, especially after staying up until two-thirty talking to Jake.

My phone rang and flashed me Jake’s name. ‘Good morning, sleeping beauty.’

‘Good morning. I’m exhausted.’

‘Me too. Let’s not stay up so late again.’

‘Do you want me to pick you up, or would you rather ride the bus?’

‘I want you to pick me up so I can see your beautiful face.’

‘You’re too kind. What should I wear today?’

‘Wear anything, you’ll look amazing regardless.’

I climbed out of bed and walked over to my dresser. I pulled out my favorite grey v-neck tee. It was a tee-shirt representing my future college, Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.

I tugged off my pajamas and pulled that shirt on. I, then, put on a pair of blue jeans.

I quickly brushed my hair and decided that I looked good enough. I finished my morning routine and went down stairs.

I was greeted by the sweet smell of breakfast.

On the table were eggs, pancakes, sausage, orange juice, bacon, bananas, toast, and grits. My mom stood at the sink washing dishes.

“Mommy, what is all of this, and why aren’t you at work?”

“I took the day off to spend some time with your father and this breakfast is to celebrate his homecoming.”

“Are we going to eat soon? I have to pick Jake up for school.”

“I’ll go see if your father is awake yet.” With that, she disappeared from the room.

I hopped up and sat on the counter. I looked down at my wrist and admired the bracelet that hung there.

My phone buzzed from inside my pocket.

‘When are you getting here?’ Jake asked.

‘After my dad gets up, we’re eating breakfast. I’ll come get you when we finish.’

‘I’ll wait.’

As I stuffed my phone back into my pocket, my dad walked into the kitchen sleepily.

“Good morning, daddy.” I kissed his cheek.

“Good morning, Sam,” he yawned.

My mom walked in a moment later looking flushed. My dad looked at her suggestively. “You guys are gross. Did you do a quickie upstairs?”

Daddy smiled, “That’s for us to know and for you not to find out.”

“Oh, God, daddy why? I think I just lost my appetite,” I took a banana off of the table; “I’m going to get Jake.”

I walked out of the door quickly and nearly jumped into my car in the rush of trying to get as far away from there as fast as possible. I shivered in disgust as I drove away.

As I pulled into Jake’s driveway, I honked my horn to let him know I was there. He walked outside smiling and quickly jogged over to my car.

“How was breakfast,” he asked, getting in the car.

“I couldn’t eat.”

“Why?”

“My mom went to wake my dad up and when they came down stairs they unknowingly told me about their quickie,” I shivered in disgust again.

“That must’ve been terrible.”

“It was.”

“Do you want me to make it all better?”

“No.”

After getting to school, the day seemed to go as quickly as it came.

Before I knew it, I was meeting Jake at my car after school.

“Are you ready to meet my dad,” I asked as we climbed into my car.

Jake touched my hand but pulled it away as fast as he could, “No, but I guess I have no other choice.”

“He’s a good man, I promise.”

I pulled into the driveway and climbed out of the car. Jake looked as if he were frozen in place. I opened his car door and literally dragged him out of the car. “Don’t be a baby,” I yelled at Jake.

“I’m scared!”

“Get over it! He won’t hurt you. You’re being irrational!”

I dragged him through the grass towards my house. “Get up right now, or I’ll have my dad come out here and see you like this. He really won’t like you is he sees you’re a coward.”

Jake stood up, “Fine.”

We walked calmly inside.

“I’ve been expecting you.” Daddy stood in the middle of the living room in his full navy dress uniform.

“Daddy, you promised not to go ‘military man’ on him,” I whined.

“I didn’t promise not to go ‘military man’ on him. I promised not to scare him with my ‘military man routine’.”

“Daddy, if he breaks up with me because of you, it’s going to be world war three up in here.”

“Sam, go upstairs and do your homework. I’d like to talk to Jake alone.”

“Daddy, don’t kill him!”

I walked upstairs and sat on my bed. I had no homework so what was I supposed to do?

I pulled out an old book and started reading it.

When I had reached the twentieth chapter, Jake walked into my room.

“What happened?”

“He likes me. Why else would I be allowed into your room?”

I jumped into his arms, “I’m so glad he likes you.”

I couldn’t pull away fast enough. “Shit!”

“I’m sorry, Jake!”

“God that hurt.”

“I forgot in my moment of happiness.”

“It’s okay. I’m just afraid that too many times my not just shock the outside but the inside too.”

“We have to be more careful.”

“Here put the bracelet on so I can hug you,” I said holding out the bracelet to him.

He put the bracelet on and pulled me into his arms. “I love having you close to me.”

He pulled away slightly and pressed his lips to mine forcefully. Slowly, he began laying me down. I pushed him off of me, “Whoa, too fast. We’ve only been together for two days. I’m not even thinking about being physical with you yet. Please, give me the bracelet back.”

He climbed off of me and threw the bracelet on my bed. “Don’t lead me on if you don’t plan on pleasing me,” he said as he stormed out of my room.

“I didn’t lead you on,” I yelled.

He didn’t respond in any way.
