People milled around, studying the fifth graders science projects, and I had to say, for ten year olds, they were pretty cool.
Smiling, I paused at a to scale model of our solar system, planets protruded from dark blue wire attached to a the centre stand which boasted the sun, the largest of the planets. As well as the model, each planet had a typed up fact card of the most common gases in the atmosphere as well as elements of the planet.
I glanced down at Morgan in his baby harness, maybe he would be into science, just like his big brother.
The fair was split up into four sections, the first three were predominantly chemistry, biology and physics displays while the last one was other, for smaller sciences, like geology and astrology.
I was still in the first section, chemistry, Ryker's work was in the third section, physics.
It was pretty fancy for a school science fair.
Ryker's project had been a big mystery in the household for a couple of months now, no matter what we did to peak at it, Ry had seemingly put in a way to stop us. It was driving me, and I think even Tim, crazy, despite him always telling me we'll find out soon enough.
All I knew is that it was to do with velocity and momentum and gravity.
By the size of it, I guessed it was some kind of plane that was powered by a small motor.
Physics wasn't really my thing. I was more a chemistry nerd. Tim was more a computer science nerd.
I hoped it was, I had five bucks on it being a plane.
Bypassing some really impressive bicarbonate soda and vinegar volcanoes, I found myself in a world of biology.
Instantly, my attention was captured by a large model of deoxyribonucleic acid.
The frame stood at about ten feet tall and the strands were made of pool noodle. Each base had a complimentary pair, A went with T and C with G, they were all shown by a specific colour: red, blue, yellow, green, respectively, each base also had a phosphate and a sugar, which were shown as a lilac painted polystyrene sphere and a pink cube.
Other people were taking it in turns to build up the DNA strand in the double helix shape, I was quite content to explain it all to Morgan as his tiny hand grabbed at the finger puppets on my fingers.
I headed into the physics section, my eyes immediately drawn to the model plane, I glanced at the name tag.
RYKER MCGEE
Tim owed me five bucks.
It was used to explain forces in a very simple way, easy enough for a fifth grader to learn.
Glancing around, I noticed that Ryker was no where in sight, unlike the other students proudly boasting their creations.
"Auntie Abby!"
Glancing around, I spotted the source of the noise, Tali was sprinting towards me, the Principal following behind.
This meant anything but good.
"Abby, I think Ryker is having, a, um, a manic episode." Tali panted before she fully came to a stop.
"Tali, honey, I need you to explain from the top what is happening."
