I was nervous coming to school today. Really nervous. I saw Cadence’s car parked next to my parking spot. I was afraid I’d have another awkward encounter with him. That’s inevitable though, that was just my life! I wasn’t actually gonna be late to school today, surprisingly. Punctuality wasn’t in my list of strengths. I sauntered into the school and went directly to my locker. As I was getting everything situated for the day, I couldn’t help but sense someone staring at me, no not just staring at me observing me and mentally taking little notes on my every move. Not wanting to look paranoid, I ignored this strange feeling. I was acting silly. There’s no one looking at me.
“Hello.” I nearly peed my pants as I jumped ten feet in the air. I shot around and let out a deep breath.
“Hello, C-cadence.” I tried to keep my cool. Unfortunately it wasn’t working. .
“Someone is on edge this morning.”
“Maybe it’s because someone is stalking me!” I yelled glaring at him. \
“Just, observing you.” He simply stated
“ Same thing. Everyone seems to be doing that lately. I’m not a shiny new toy!” I yelled down the hallway causing people to give me weird looks. Oh great, now I’m not only the new girl now I’m the crazy new girl. Amusement filled his eyes. His change of character baffled me in the least.
“Don’t say that, you are so much more than a shiny new toy, you’re like a shiny new trophy!” he said smiling. I gave him a flat look.
“Ha.”
After giving me a quick wink, he turned and left. What the he—
“So, you and Cadence, huh?” For the second time today, I nearly peed my pants and jumped ten feet in the air.
“AGH! People have GOT to stop doing that!” I growled facing Aubry. I still couldn’t help but smile at my new friend.
“Sorry. But seriously. What’s up with you and Cadence?”
“Umm.” I replied scratching the back of my head, “I’m not totally sure at the moment. He’s” I stopped to think of a fitting word, “...strange. First he’s all hostile, now he’s making jokes.”
“Normally, he doesn’t talk to many people.” she paused “anymore.”
“Huh?”
“Well, Cadence and I have known each other ever since we were in diapers. We were pretty good friends. He was an extremely social guy, and probably one of the nicest people I had ever met. It seemed like he was friends with everybody.” she sighed deeply and ran a hand through her short hair, “Then, at the beginning of last year his parents passed away and he completely changed. He became depressed and isolated himself from everyone and whoever tried to talk to him got yelled at. And what I just saw between you guys-it was like the old Cadence was back. I knew there was something special about you.” I blushed.
I started trekking my way to World Lit. My mind raced. How come he only talks to me? What was so special, or not special about me? I’m not sure whether to feel good that an extremely attractive god such as himself is interested in me. Are we friends now? I barely know anything about him. Well, I suppose I barely know anything about Aubry but I’m friends with her.
I took my seat next to- uh what’s his name? Gary...no.Grant....no. Greg! Yes, I took my seat next to Greg. Feeling in a better mood this morning I smiled his way. He looked taken aback but quickly beamed at me. He wasn’t bad looking. He was kinda cute, like a puppy.
“How are you Geney?” he asked. I was thrown off by his seemingly endearing nickname.
“Geney?” I asked incredulously raising an eyebrow.
“Yeah! Eugene is too formal. I’m thinking I like a more casual name for you.”
“Oh, so we’re on casual terms now?”
“Well, yeah, I-I mean I thou--” he stammered
“Calm down,” I smiled. I can be easy-going. Plus he had those doe eyes that you couldn’t be mean to. Well, yesterday was an exception because I was obviously in a sour mood.
My next two classes droned on for hours and I was finally in government again, with Cadence. He kept his eyes glued on me as I made my way to my desk. Trying to keep my eyes off of him whilst trying to look graceful I unknowingly tripped over someone’s bag and with a yelp I fell to the ground. Everyone burst into fits of giggles. My cheeks turned crimson. So much for being graceful.
“Oh yeah, real mature you guys!” I exclaimed lifting myself up from my previous position. I looked up and saw Cadence silently laughing to himself. I gave him a ‘you think this is funny? I’ll beat you up’ sorta look. He returned it with a ‘bring it on’ look. I rolled my eyes and slumped into my seat.
I opened up my book to make it appear like I was doing something productive. Suddenly something bounced off of my head and rolled onto my desk. A note?
Lunch?

What are we, In middle school? Seriously? How old is this guy? And why the hell is he taking so much interest in me? I turned around and gave him a bewildered look and he shrugged and smirked my way. I decided to ignore him. He’ll get over it. I laughed to myself. I’ll show him. I could sense him staring at me in disbelief. Yeah, that’s right Mr. Hotshot. This girl is in charge. Once the bell rang I scampered out of class as quickly as possible. I know somehow that he would follow me anyways. I could hear his light footsteps treading lightly behind me. I tried my best to ignore him.
“Why are you ignoring me?” he pleaded. I just kept on walking. I felt his hand tug at my arm. I froze, his touch send electric shocks all through my body. My mind went numb and I felt slightly weaker, yet calmer. My eyes drooped lazily. I felt so at ease, I could just fall asleep here. Then everything turned blurry and soon darkness fell over me.
