I woke up feeling numb.  What happened to me? I blinked my eyes to take in my surroundings. I was in my room. How did I get here?

“Moooom!” I croaked.  I heard little pidder padders of feet and my mother popped into my room.

“Oh Eugene! I’m glad you’re okay!” she shrieked loudly, making my ears ring.

“What happened to me?”

“Oh, you’re friend, um, Cadence said you fainted. He brought you home. Did you not eat breakfast this morning?” she asked with concern.

Cadence? What? Fainted? Brought me home? How did he know where I live? All these damn houses look the same. I can barely even find my house.

“Uh, I guess not.” that’s the only explanation. All I remember is Cadence touched me and then blank.  “Okay, well I’m gonna go back to sleep then.”

“I’ll bring you down something to eat later.” I nodded and closed my eyes.

When she left I sighed and ran a hand through my disheveled hair. Bzzzz Bzzzz

I grabbed my phone from the night stand. I stared at the text from Aubry. I nearly freaked out, it was already six o’clock!

A: Second day of school and you’re already skipping?

Me: Haha. I got sick.

A: You ok?

Me: Yeah, I’ll be back tomorrow. No worries.

A: K.

“Hun, it’s time to get up for school.”  Wait, what? It’s already morning? What the?

“Uh okay, mom.”

I got out of bed and lumbered into the shower. After blow drying my hair and getting dressed, I jogged up the stairs.

“Eugene, since your car is still at school, Cadence is taking you to school today.” my mom simply stated, keeping her eyes on the newspaper. I groaned and grabbed an apple from the fridge just in time for my “escort” to arrive. Prepare for weirdness. I grabbed my bag and headed outside. Cadence was leaning against my gate looking gorgeous as ever--wait, what? Nevermind. I gave him a timid glance and walked straight to the passenger side door without saying a word. He chuckled and let himself in the car.

“Good morn-”

“What happened yesterday?” I interrupted.

“Well, you fainted.” he said slowly.

“No duh. Why?”  I asked narrowing my eyes at him.

“I would assume lack of bloodflow to the brain.” he stated simply. I groaned. I give up!

He started driving and I stayed silent, rummaging through my brain what happened.

“But when you touched me, it sent me in a sort of weird trance.”

“I think you were just sick, and delusional.” he suggested. I looked at him still not convinced but decided to drop it.

“You know,” he started “you look like a little rabbit when you’re in deep thought.” he chuckled again. His laugh was so warm and musical. Ah! Eugene focus!

“Uh, what?” I said dumbly. He just laughed. This guy will be the death of me. After what seemed like an unusually long drive, we finally arrived at school.

“Um, thank you.” I murmured. He nodded and walked me the school entrance and continued to walk me all the way to my classroom. All the sudden I noticed everybody was looking at me, well us. It was different than the first day of school. This time it was with envy. Mostly from all the girls. He must have been a heartbreaker back in the day. Wow, these people need to find a hobby. I sped up my pace and successfully reached my first period without being attacked. I gave a quick nod to Cadence and took my seat next to Greg. I took out my apple and started to munch on it.
