“Eugene, EUGENE! You are the laziest person I ever met.” a smooth voice echoed into my dream.

“Meh.” I grunted, turning over and place the pillow over my head.

“No-bad-Eug-give me the pillow. WAKE UP DAMMIT!” suddenly the covers flew off of me.

My reflexes kicked in and I flailed my limbs all over the place resulting in me slapping whoever it was in the face.

“OW! You have got to be kidding me Eugene.” I heard followed by a groan. I suddenly realized what I did and sat up straight in my bed.

“Cadence! What  the hell are you doing in my room?” I nearly screamed covering my exposed body with the blanket (Well, I wasn’t that exposed I was wearing shorts and a tank top, but still.)

Cadence smirked, “Your mom let me in.”

“Figures.” I sighed scratching my head. Unlike my dad, mother was trusting of nearly anyone. “What do you want?”

“Can’t a friend visit another friend at their house?”

“It’s too early!”

“It’s 1:30”

“Exactly!” I yelled throwing myself back down on the bed and falling back asleep.

“Oh no you don’t!” he yelled.I felt him grab my leg and start pulling.

“Nooooo!” I screamed grabbing onto the bed rail. He grabbed my other leg and overpowered me causing me to topple over him.

“What is going on down h--” my mother paused mid-sentence. I then realized me and Cadence’s compromising position. My heart started up again and I could feel my cheeks getting hot. I was laying directly on top of him.

“I hate you.” I muttered getting up and brushing myself off.

“Eugene, do we need to have the talk?”

“No mother. You just came in at the wrong time.” I sighed.

“Uh huh...” she muttered heading back upstairs.

I grabbed some clothes and headed towards the shower. “No funny business.” I ordered sternly pointing at him.

Twenty minutes later I was dressed and ready for whatever adventure Cadence had planned.

We were driving for about ten minutes when Cadence decided to start conversation.

“Are you and Greg an item?”

“What? No-I mean I don’t think so. I’ve only been here for barely a week for crying out loud! I barely know--”

“Why were you two holding hands at the movie theatre?” he interrupted.

“That doesn’t concern you, now does it Cadence?” I snapped. I suddenly regretted snapping at him  I noticed his knuckles were turning white. “Sorry.” I mumbled, “I would have felt bad if I pulled my hand away from his.” Cadence seemed to relax a little more. He was probably just trying to be protective.

“Sorry I pried. You’re right, it doesn’t concern me.” I smiled towards him and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder.

Twenty minutes later we arrived at our destination.Cadence led me into a little hiking path taking my hand to lead the way. His hands sent shivers down my spine. Similar to the first time he touched me but not as powerful. It felt like he was holding something back. A good 15 minutes and 20 or so injuries later we reached a clearing with a clear blue lake surrounded by hundreds of vibrant evergreens. I gasped. It was a magnificent sight. A whispering willow tree hung over a single bench outlooking the whole scene. I took a seat on the bench and just gawked. I felt Cadence take a spot right next to me. I gawked and enjoyed the view. I don’t know how long we sat there in silence but soon my eyes drooped and I fell asleep.

“Do you only ever sleep?” I heard Cadence exclaim. I realized I had been sleeping on his shoulder. I shot my head up and looked up at his bright blue eyes sheepishly. It was so peaceful. I decided to wade a bit into the lake. I got up and started rolling up my jeans.

“Don’t drown!” Cadence yelled jokingly from afar.

I cautiously started wading through the mushy ground. Trying my very best to not fall. Soon the cool water was up to my knees. I dared to take one step more not caring if I got my jeans wet.

I gasped, something got snagged on my foot, no something grabbed my foot and dragged me down into the deep part of the lake. I couldn’t manage a scream as I was soon fully submersed in the cold water. Whoever it was had a unbelievably strong grasp on my leg. It was like a scene directly out of a horror movie. I squirmed and fought as hard as I could. I could barely hear my name being shouted from above the water. An attempted scream tried to escape my lips but I instead started to choke on water and kept going down....and down.....

“Eugene! Please wake up! Please!” I felt like I was in a dream everything was in slow motion. I could feel Cadences presence but I couldn’t see him. There was a sudden painful pounding on my chest and I choked out water.. Finally, I could see his beautiful eyes.

“Am I dead?” I croaked.

“No, no you’re very much alive!” Cadence whispered holding me tightly in his arms. I instantly began to sob

“S-someone t-t-tried to kill me!” I buried my head into Cadence’s chest.

“Shh, It’s okay. No one can hurt you now.” he cooed. I was shaking maniacally in his arms.

“Let’s go back to my place to get you clean up, okay?” he asked softly.

I nodded and Cadence motioned for me to jump on his back. Reluctantly I wrapped my arms and legs around him. I continued to sniffle and cry all the way back to his car.
