Told again from Melissa's perspective.
They took my daughter right from my arms. They loaded her in the back of a EMS.
They drove her like a maniac to the hospital.
I sat there. They told me I wouldn't be able to see her as she needed to be rushed into surgery to save her failing livers right away. There was no point showing the whole world and everyone at the hospital I'm a shit mother who's daughter's been drinking and harming herself for God knows how long, and she had no idea.
I stared at her note. That wasn't Maddie. It was her handwriting, but she hates poetry and she hates being referred to or referring to herself as Madison. There was something wrong with the way it was written, it was definitely her handwriting, but not her style of writing. It was strange.
Either way, I just kept looking the note over and over when suddenly I heard the door slam and soft footsteps coming up the stairs. The door opened to Maddie's room and Chloe walked in, much to my surprise.
"Hey, Melissa."
She whispered softly."Chloe."
Was all I could say. I haven't seen Chloe in weeks, I was just surprised to see her, especially here."I heard."
Chloe said softly again, so quiet I could barely make out what she was saying."Wow. Word spreads fast."
I mumbled, looking back down at the note on my lap."Yeah. I guess I saw the EMS and just — assumed."
She said, taking a few steps closer to me and sitting down beside me.In the heat of the moment with my nerves all over the place, my heart just poured out and my heart took over my mind.
"What did you assume? Did you know my daughter would try and kill herself with your stupid 'sensory' idiocy? God, I wish I could go back in time and stop my daughter from ever meeting you. You ruined her. You're the reason she's messed up. You're the worst influence and the worst thing to ever come into Maddie's life. I never want to see you around her or me again."
I hissed, tears falling back down my face.Chloe was obviously taken aback, but instead of getting up and leaving she leaned over and wrapped me into a hug.
"I didn't mean it."
I whispered as tears ripped down my face."I know. I'm sorry, and maybe it is my fault. I promise you everything will be alright. Let's go to the hospital now."
Whispered Chloe and she got up and wiped her own tears from her face.I got up after her and follows her out to my minivan, where I wiped my cheeks, started the car, and drove Chloe and I both to the North Health Campus. Once we whipped into the parking lot, I parked and Chloe and I both rushed through the door and up to the front desk, where they said Maddie was almost
finished her procedure where part of her liver was removed and we would be able to visit her in a few hours. So we sat in the waiting room and did what you do there.
We waited.Four and a half long hours. We never touched our phones or looked up at the TV mounted on the wall. We just thought. And thought.
And then we were allowed to visit her.
We walked into the room, and Maddie was still out from the anesthetics, but we sat next to her bed and waited a little more, but we didn't mind.
Maddie was okay, and I guess we were too.
