I hold Niko's hand as we trudge through the snow. He leans against me, trying to stay warm. I pull his purple scarf over his mouth and nose, trying to help. I see a sign next to some houses. It says, "Snowdin."
I smile. "Niko, we made it!"
He perks up and pulls his scarf down, showing me his smile. I hold his hand and start walking faster.
As we enter the town, I see a shop, a hotel, and a Christmas tree. A few monsters look at us then go on with their business. I see a large house. There are two mailboxes. One is filled to the brim with junk mail, but the other is completely empty. I go to the door and knock on it. No one answers. I look at Niko. He shivers. "Let's keep going down the road. Maybe it'll be a bit warmer."
I frown. "Maybe."
We keep walking down the path until we walk into heavy fog. It clears up a bit in the center. I see a tall skeleton, Papyrus! He turns to us. "Sans told me about you two. How you wanted to meet me and be friends..."
Niko nods. "Yeah. That was me."
Papyrus closes his eyes. "Maybe we can be friends, but first..." He puts his arms up, making several bones appear. "You have to beat me."
Niko gasps and hides behind me. Papyrus sends two flying at us. Niko drops to the ground, holding his hat. I easily dodge between them. He sends out a wall of blue bones. I take my stick and infuse it with the power of my soul. It turns red. I swing it at the wall of bones. They impale my arm as the stick moves through it. I wince in pain as blood stains my sweater. The rest pass through me, doing nothing. I grab the bone stuck in my arm and yank it. I yell in pain and drop it to the ground. Niko gasps and puts his hand on my wound. His soul appears and seals the wound. I look at Niko in surprise. "How did you...?"
"I don't know. I copied Toriel..."
I push him out of the way and feel a bone stab into my shoulder. I grunt in pain and drop to my knees. I rip it out of me, and Niko heals me. I look at Papyrus. "You don't have to do this!"
He stops for a second then puts his hand back up, launching another wave of bones. I jump over some and duck while moving left.
I look at my stick and then at Papyrus. It turns into a knife. I grin, starting to laugh. I take a step towards Papyrus. Sans appears in my mind, yelling in sorrow, digging through dust and pulling out a torn, red scarf. I see a brown shoe kicking a skull, turning it into dust. The girl appears again. "Do it..." she says. "Just force your hand down."
I feel my body being shaken. "Frisk! Stop!" Niko shouts.
I am snapped back into reality. I'm sitting on Papyrus's chest and I've raised my stick up like I was going to stab him with a knife. I recoil and drop the stick, kicking it away. I pant as my heart rate skyrockets. Papyrus looks at me in horror. I shake, terrified at what just transpired. "What happened?" I say, still scared.
Niko shuts his eyes. "You almost killed him!" he shouts.
Papyrus stands up and blasts several bones at me. Niko sees and runs in front of me. A green barrier appears in front of him and makes the bones crumble into dust. He pants and glares at Papyrus. "Don't hurt him! I'll protect him! He's my brother!"
I look at Niko and hug him. "Thank you..."
He hugs me back. "You're welcome."
Papyrus looks at the two of us and puts his hand down. "I was scared," he says. "He was going to kill me."
"I'm sorry, Papyrus. I didn't want to hurt you." Why can I say it now?... "I don't know what came over me. I can't remember what happened."
He closes his eyes and walks to us. He kneels in front of us and smiles. "I don't want to hurt you anymore. Can we be friends?"
Niko and I smile. "Of course."
His smile grows wider. "Thank you." He stands up. "I'm sorry, but I have to go home now. It's almost bedtime. If you keep going down the path, you'll reach Waterfall. Keep going and you'll eventually reach Asgore's castle. I wish you both luck on making it out of here."
I smile. "Thank you, Papyrus."
He smiles and waves as he leaves.
Niko helps me up, and we continue down the path.
As we reach a bridge, I see Sans. His eye is glowing blue. "What did you do?" he says menacingly. "You almost killed him... monster."
I back up, feeling scared. "I'm sorry. I didn't-"
He appears in front of me. His eyes are blank. He grabs the collar of my sweater. Niko doesn't react, almost as if he's frozen in time. "You. Almost. Killed. My. Brother." I shake in fear, unable to speak. "If you do that again..." A giant skull appears behind him and opens its mouth. A blue beam starts charging then fires. It doesn't hit me, but blasts the area right next to me. "...you'll regret it..." The skull disappears and he backs up. Time seems to unfreeze. Sans smiles. "Hey there. I see you guys made friends with my bro."
Niko smiles. "I didn't see you there! Hi, Sans."
Sans waves. "I'm gonna head to Grillby's. Wanna come with?"
Niko shakes his head. "I'm not too hungry."
Sans shrugs. "Alright. Wish ya luck."
As he passes me, a chill runs up my spine. Niko and I keep walking towards Waterfall.
