Nirvana walked to where the waves met the shore. The warm water dancing in between her toes and caressing her ankles. She was tired. Her soul was tired. There was no relief. She wondered if her broken heart was just killing her slowly.
Every time she looked at Bryan there was nothing but rage, fear and monumental hurt. The years played over and over in her head. The dread of realizing the person she'd poured her soul into was nothing but a fabrication. The baby shower was supposed to start in two hours. She took a few steps until her waist was submerged. The water was clear as glass with only sea foam to distort it.
It was calming. The ocean. Beckoning and begging her to give her whole self to it.
She could hear it calling her name. The frantic kicking in her womb has ceased and only playful grasping and stretching between the two babies could be felt. She laid back. Her body floating in the shallow waters as she breathed calmly in and out. The sun touching her face and it's warmth piercing her damp dress.
That beautiful white dress pulling her further out with every wave. But that was okay. That's what she wanted. Lost at sea. Where love couldn't hurt her and promises couldn't be broken. The salty water overtook her. Filling her nose and her mouth. But she didn't fight. She just drifted.
Her name. She kept hearing her name. Over and over, a screaming in her head.
Suddenly her body was yanked upwards. Two arms holding her for dear life, but she was too tired to open her eyes. Too tired. Too over it all.
She just wanted to sleep. This world was too ugly and too wicked.-
Jason couldn't think straight.
CPR? No he'd break her ribs and the baby was close to the area.
He tilted her head back and cleared the airway. He breathed into her mouth.
"Gotdammit Van, don't do this to me!"
Light compressions on her chest.
Shit. Shit. Shit! For the love of everything holy not his woman. Not his child.
Her chest jumped. Water erupted from her throat and her coughing was frantic.
The dam burst inside Jason and his pounding heart rivaled the crash of the ocean. He held her to his chest. He'd seen her from the driveway.
Sprinting down the incline he dropped the baby swing in his arms and so he into the warm waters. Where the fuck was her husband?!
He gathered her small body and walked to the door with a burning rage. Lance ran to them, catching site of a half dead pregnant Nirvana and a manic Jason. Both of them soaking wet. Lance followed his brother up the stairs.
"What are you doing bruh? We gotta call an ambulance!"
Jason ignored him, kicking open the door to the large bedroom and setting Nirvana on the bed. He heard Bryan in the shower.
-Bryan heard the bedroom door burst open. He assumed Nirvana was back inside with the house. And her nasty was attitude getting on his nerves. Suddenly the bathroom door exploded open.
"What the FUCK?!" He yelled.
"Jason come back bro!"
The glass in shower burst around him, before he knew what was happening Jason's bloody fist were upon him. Blow after blow hitting him in the face, chest and stomach.
"YOUR WIFE COULD'VE DIED YOU PIECE OF SHIT!" Jason howled, his anger consuming him. "YOU FUCK WITH MY FIANCE, AND YOU THINK YOU CAN TAKE HER FROM ME TOO,HUH?!"
"I don't want her bruh!" Bryan yelled back, swinging his own fist. To dazed to realize Jason was referring to Nirvana.
The two men fell out of the broken shower bloodied and wet.
Lance' s voice a distant and hurried chatter in the background.
"I'LL KILL YOU BRO!" Jason repeated over and over.
-
Jason sat in the back of a cop car, seething with murderous intent. And Nirvana in an ambulance. Bryan a now dressed but dazed figure in his doorway, bathed in flashing blue lights. His wife was his only focus.
Her tiny body lay on the gurnee with her stomach jutting upright.
What was he supposed to do?
What was he supposed to do?!
After giving his statement his home and yard were quiet and empty.
Bryan walked to the living room. The large box sat in the middle of the room. Covered in pink and blue wrapping paper. He ripped open the box. Blue confetti shot into the air along with two bunches of blue balloons.
Boys. He was having two boys.
Bryan threw on a shirt and ran to get his keys. His wife and kids were waiting for him. Being air transported back to Atlanta for better review and care. He had to get there. It was a five hour drive and rain began to suddenly pour.
God was weeping.
