Upon surfacing from the underground, Percy looked around, analyzing his surroundings. It was something that all demigods learned to do very quickly once they became aware of their surroundings and their parentage.
Judging by the cool temperature, he was a ways north from New York where he went down to the underground. It was also considerably darker than it should have been outside, Percy glanced down at his magic watch-shield that Tyson had made him.
8:37 am
Huh, should be the middle of the day now.
But it looked to be the middle of the night.
I must have come out of the underworld in a different time-zone or something. Oh well, better find where I am so I can get back to New York and help my friends fight the Titan army...
As Percy began walking, looking for something to tell him where he was, he spotted a small camp fire in the distance, out of the forest and across a field. He broke into a swift jog as he followed the light over to a tiny town. Along the outskirts there was a sign the labeled the town as "Forks."
A strange name for a town... But who am I to judge them for their taste in names. Forks, really, you know what? I am going to judge them for it.
Walking through the town, he felt a slight chill go down his spine and he glanced over his shoulder. Seeing nothing, he decided that he was imagining things, hah. Yeah right. When his monster senses went off, even if he was invulnerable now, he wasn't going to pretend it didn't exist.
Percy slowly slipped his hand into his pocket, fingering his cheap ballpoint pen of a weapon, a sudden thought crossed his mind.
How tacky could they get? Really? A pen? It's not like monsters could have watched any of those old spy movies where the good guy has a sort of pen gun or taser or whatever. They must really be stupid not to confiscate everything off of a demigod!
Then he realized, for what must be the billionth time,
Oh wait, it returns to my pocket after a short time... Hah! Stupid me!
Anyways, he casually pulled the small item from its hiding place and turned it over in his hand, angling the button to his thumb.
He abruptly stopped walking and paused, thinking and surveying his surroundings. Looking into every shadow, crack in the walls, and alleyway. Then he noticed the person that was walking down the street, right in the open. Percy mentally scolded himself for not seeing them right away.
Not letting his guard down, Percy quickly turned away and made his way into a nearby alleyway where peering eyes would not follow and experience the world of mythology firsthand. After a couple of moments, the figure from down the street turned down the same alleyway to follow him and he addressed them without turning to face them.
"You can remove the glamour you have up empousa, we both know what you are."
"Really? Are you sure you know what I am?" The voice revealed that the bearer was, in fact female, and, turning to face her, the most beautiful woman ever, or at least after Annabeth and the Lady of Love, Aphrodite, entered Percy's field of vision.
Her beautiful red curls framed a pale face with perfectly sculpted features, beautifully trimmed eyebrows, tasteful scarlet lipstick, dangerous, blood-red eyes, and exquisite, all-natural blush and eye shadow. She stood at an unimpressive height of up to Percy's shoulder, but the demigod didn't let that fool him, these demons were some of the most dangerous monsters out there.
"With a disguise like that, you're not really blending in demon." Percy snarled the last word, spitting on the ground in disgust. "Shouldn't you be in New York? Joining up with the rest of your kind?"
"Tell me. What do you think I am?"
"Vampire."
The woman's eyes widened in surprise as he spat out the word.
"How did you know?" She asked, genuinely curious.
"It's not like I've never met one of your kind before, and killed them, vaporized them all."
"Really, I'd like to add you to my own army, use your experience, my name is Victoria."
And then, as fast as his eye could follow, she lunged. But he was ready, as she came into range of his sword, he clicked his pen and Riptide sprang into being in his grasp. With a hiss, the vampire ducked under the swing and her teeth clamped down on his ribs, just beneath where his armpit began.
With a sound like chalk on a blackboard, her teeth broke away from him, a crystalline powder sprayed from the creature's mouth.
Strange, normally, a monster's teeth would have just shattered.
But then Percy realized that the dust hadn't come from the monster, no, it came from him.
Oh.
Was all Percy could think for a second, the vampire looked just as perplexed.
"Well you sure are a peculiar human."
'Human.' Not Demigod. Oh no. This isn't something I'm familiar with.
"Well that sure is a very strange development." The vampire continued ominously. "But that's never stopped me before in all my 453 years of life. I just need somewhere my teeth won't slide."
And just like that, she simply materialized, or so it appeared to be, with her teeth clamped down on Percy's wrist. Before Percy could so much as yelp at the speed of this new demon, Victoria chomped down on Percy's arm and her teeth sunk into his flesh, through his diamond hard skin.
Then, just as Percy could react and tear his shredded arm away from the vampire's teeth, the pain hit him. It was almost as bad as his time swimming in the river Styx. He felt every, supposedly, indestructible fiber in his body burn away again and again. He could feel the venom coating her teeth spreading through his veins like fire. It burned away every coherent thought and emotion until there was nothing but pain. Trillions of super-heated, serrated razors were sawing at his skin and roasting his nerve endings. The only thing missing from this experience was the acid from the river, and maybe that was what let him fight the pain and open his eyes.
Through his violent thrashing and screams of pain, he managed to see Victoria standing above him, just watching with a faint smile on her face, enjoying his agony like it was a sports event on television.
She seemed to have moved him away from the alley so that no one would hear his screaming. Her perfect head and hair were framed by trees, they were somewhere in a forest.
Ignoring the pain as best he could, Percy pulled himself together and slowly managed to stop thrashing around, stop screaming, and gather his remaining strength. Using all the strength he could pull together, he pushed himself to his feet, standing in front of Victoria, her face contorted by awe and perhaps even a bit of fear.
Percy slowly reached into his pocket and withdrew Riptide and uncapped it so that it was between the two figures. With a single swing, Riptide cut through the air, Victoria couldn't seem to move, as though she was entranced by his controlled movements. Riptide impacted the vampire with the flat of its blade and sent Victoria flying through the forest, crashing through trees as though they were paper origami.
Then, as Victoria disappeared from view into the trees, Percy collapsed to the ground and lay there, and, despite his greatest efforts, twitched and whimpered through the beginnings of the new day.
