(Chapter 16)

“Congratulations son, I’m proud of you.”

I looked at my father befuddled. What on earth was he talking about? “Why are you proud father? I killed three men tonight, rebellions or not they still had lives to live. There is nothing to be proud of,” I replied uninterested. I noticed that my father and Ava exchange quick looks and then he turned his attention back to me. “Join me in the study son, we have much to discuss,” He said and walked away. I looked to where Ava and Silla stood; they both shrugged and started to walk away. “Hey, wait! Where are you guys going?” I asked surprised to see them leaving. They both giggled and told me to find them at the pool after I spoke to my father. I nodded and made my way to the study. Climbing the stairs I kept thinking about the girl I saved tonight. She was beautiful. She had long black hair and fair white skin. You would think she looked like snow white, but no, she was way more beautiful. I could feel the goodness and pureness that came from within her. She had the bluest eyes of lapis lazuli I have ever seen. They were so pure yet enigmatic. There was something about her that made me want to protect her from any type of harm, it was difficult to explain the pull I felt towards this girl and her beauty just added to it. I remember everything about her even though I only saw her for a moment. She wore this peach knit top that went to her knees with black leggings and black knee high boots. Her black hair was let down and straightened. She may have looked so simple but I found her to be as beautiful as a goddess. But there was nothing I could do about it, as she was terrified of me even though I saved her life. I saw the way she looked at me. I felt like a monster yet when she looked at me through those terrified yet beautiful lapis lazuli eyes, but when she thanked me I never felt more human.

I snapped out of my thoughts as I approached the door of the study. “You wanted to see me,” I said as I knocked twice before I entered the room. My father sat behind the ancient desk doing paper work. “Yes, I did. We need to discuss the events of what took place tonight,” he said formally. “Sit son, tell me what happened, and don’t leave out a single detail, I must know everything,” he said sounding concerned. I rolled my eyes at him, as I retold the entire story of what happened from patrolling to meeting Ava and Silla and then saving the girl. I told him how I could smell her scent in the air and everything that I thought was necessary for him to know. I didn’t tell him about how she made me feel but I assumed he knew. He just listened the entire time I spoke and when I was done he nodded and smiled. I was still very confused and looked at him waiting for his verdict on the whole situation.

“Hmmm,” he said. ‘Hmmm’ is that all he has to say, I thought. What a waste of time. “Damian, my son, your mother always believed in the prophecy, yet since the events of her passing, I have begun to believe it myself. The prophecy son is true. And I’m afraid the events of tonight have proven that,” he said.

“What do you mean?” I asked him trying to comprehend what he said.

“Well, you see son. The prophecy states that one of two sons of the dark father will be born to a life that he shall not want, but when the time comes he will claim his rightful place and slay the one who brings all change. He shall slay the goddess and take away his blood brothers life by killing her . . .” he sighed. “The prophecy is about you and your brother,” he continued, “Your mother’s life was the sacrifice needed to begin the ritual to fulfill the prophecy. She foretold the prophecy at first as she had the power of premonitions. I remember the day she had put it all together and figured out the premonition, she cried for hours and she held you both very close and never let you out of her sight. She was terrified. I hated seeing her like that. But it wasn’t our choice. It was what has been planned for you. I told you before of the prophecy and the part you play in it,” he said. “I know you feel this strong pull to the girl you saved tonight. She smells of your favorite scents. That is because she’s the one you need to protect. She’s your mission in life son, but that isn’t all, she’s also your blood bound soul mate.” I stared at my father wide eyed as he spoke. I couldn’t comprehend anything he said. It sounded like rubbish. How could she be my soul mate? But I wasn’t one to be disobedient and rude to my father. I respected him too much, and stayed silent and listened on. “I know you think I’m talking a whole lot of hogwash, but when the time comes son, you will understand the wisdom in my words.” I nodded at him, as he continued to speak. “Tonight, she will send you a message and that is how your friendship will grow. You will find the need to protect her from any type of harm even if it is trivial. You will eventually both exchange blood, but she will never know of our kind. You will be blood bound to her. But your main mission, son, is to protect her from Jason. On the night of the full moon and not just any full moon. It will be a blue moon. Jason will strike; he will have to perform a ritual in order to gain full capacity of all of his power as well as the hidden power the girl contains”.

“Blood bound? Hidden power?” I repeated. I looked at my father who smiled pleasantly at me before explaining.

“Ok first things first let me explain what blood bound means. This is when you will give the girl your blood. And by doing this it will create a bond. The blood exchange can be done in any way; you can feed it to her or a transfusion”. I nodded my head in understanding. That wasn’t too hard to fathom. When he saw my face ease up with the confusion he continued with his explanation. “Once you both are blood bound, you would have a mind link with her so you would be able to communicate with her. Not only would you have a mind link but you both would be joined as one which means that you would both be linked together. If she gets hurt you will feel the pain and vice versa”.

“Next is the story of the hidden powers. Once you and the girl are blood bound, the feelings you harbor towards her will be of pure untainted love. You will dream of no girl but her. She would take over your mind, body and soul. And once she pledges herself to you, you will be forced to turn her.” He paused for a breather and looked as though he were deep in thought, but before I could interrupt his peace he snapped out of it and looked a bit sad and distant before he spoke on “Once you turn her son, she will be yours and you will be hers. You both will be classified as soul mates. It will be a painful yet beautiful love that will consume you whole. But the hidden power I speak off is the reason why this girl is so special. The girl, her name is Elaine Demont’e. She is the great descendant of the master seer Phalen and HRH Princess Gabriella Missori. Master Phalen and Princess Gabriella were the initial rulers of the underworld; they were the original vampires of the world. Master Phalen was a great seer and Princess Gabriella was a witch. She was apart of the very first of her kind. Elaine is a direct descendant of these two great people. The powers passed on down to their off springs have only increased by time. And Elaine’s powers have been dormant for all these years so once they become active she alone will be the most powerful being to walk amongst us and thus we shall all bow down to her as she will bring peace and harmony to our kind. BUT, and this is were the prophecy comes in, if Elaine’s power is harnessed by someone of evil intent and superior strength at the break of dawn on the night of the blue moon, God help our dead souls, but we will all be doomed.” I looked at my father’s worried expression, everything becoming so clear now. “If Jason harnesses Elaine’s powers before she does, Jason will be out of control. He already harbors such hatred towards us and the humans. We won’t be strong enough to take him down even if we had the help of a million dead armies.” I said overwhelmed.

“Exactly son, this is why you must protect Elaine Demont’e from Jason. Although the great seer’s of our time predict that there might be a loophole, if you can call it that, to the prophecy, things might go in our favor or it might go horribly wrong and in turn favor Jason and his goons. But son, you can’t let it get to that, you will need to protect the girl and when the time comes possibly even have to kill Jason”. He concluded.

I stared wide eyed at my father, completely unable to comprehend what he said. It was ridiculous. There must still be some sort of hope, right? I shook my head in disbelief.

How could I KILL my own BROTHER?
