Lynn's POV
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chapter 7
I picked up my bag nervously, feeling the rough straps rub against my palms. I gritted my teeth. The caning had hurt a lot and the marks it left behind on my hands were still sensitive. I sighed, wishing I didn't have such bad luck. That incident happened and my friends choose to betray me. To be honest, I felt very insecure without my tie. What would others say?
"Let's go already!" Rynn called from the car.
"Hurry up!" Jae chimed in.
"We're gonna be laaaattttttteeeeee!!!!" Rae complained.
"Hurry up, Lynn, please," Mom said as gently as possible. I bit my lip and brushed my tears away.
It was all too soon when my parents dropped me off outside RGPS. "Please! Take me home!" I begged. I knew a nasty surprise was coming today... I really didn't want to come to school today.
"Please, Lynn. You brought this upon yourself." Dad said shortly, giving me a sympathetic look before shutting the car door.
Somehow, I made it over to the parade square without breaking down in tears.
"Look at that, simply pathetic!" a cold voice greeted me as I tried to sink into the shadows. I thought it was Rebecca at first... but it wasn't her.
"Go on, Netanya! You can do this! Finish your task and Henrietta won't have to sabotage you along with the rest of your... friends." That was Rebecca.
"Um..."
"Hurry up! Henrietta's about to... break away from that stupid Socialis you have soon and I can't miss it. It's great that you come so early but I don't have so much time!" Rebecca encouraged her. I bit my lip. Why!? I thought but kept quiet.
"Wh-what gave you the nerve to even show up in school today, loser!? Thought your friends would be there for you?" Netanya was growing more and more confident. Obviously, she wanted to argue with me but I didn't want to.
"Hurry up and win this thing!" Rebecca urged impatiently, boredom creeping into her voice. That made sense now. She wanted Netanya to pick and win a fight. I didn't want to fight but if I didn't, it was like an auto lose.
"You pathetic idiot. Perhaps you are too pathetic to argue with me?" Netanya continued in a taunting tone.
"Whatever," I whispered, trying not to cry. "I hope you find what you want in Rebecca because you either changed or your pathetic mask fell off. I don't know who... y-you are a-anym-more..." To be honest, I turned and fled, tears streaming down my cheeks. That was it. Netanya had won and I really meant what I said to her.
"LYNN, I-" Netanya called after me but I did not care. Rebecca would be sniggering, laughing at me, sure.
I ran behind the school but stopped when I heard Henrietta say, "Guys, I'm really sorry but..."
"But what?" Nut asked, concerned.
"Hen...Do not apologise you idiot." Rebecca warned.
Hen smiled sheepishly and cried "It would be better if we were not friends! YOU ALL HAVE BEEN TOTAL IDIOTS TO ME. I AM BREAKING AWAY.
Hen ran away, tears streaming down her cheeks. I grasped whatever I could get hold of, which right now, was the wall. I was gasping, I felt like I was going to throw up. Hen, of all people, loyal to her friends, the one who believed in everlasting friendship, what was she thinking? There had to be something to this. Hen could not do this, it had to be Rebecca. Hen and the others were being controlled by Rebecca. My stomach churned and it hurt a lot. I tasted bile. I clutched my stomach, doubled over and threw up. I did not feel any better so I gagged again and again, until there was nothing left, but my stomach still hurt and I still felt sick.
"Lynn..." I heard a voice say. Actually it was two voices. Weak and suffering, I leaned against the wall and groaned, clutching my tummy.
"Lynn, it's us. Are you okay?" I turned around and saw Hen and Nut standing there, looking very worried indeed.
"Go away." I moaned.
"No, Lynn, we are going to help you. WE REALLY ARE SO SHUT UP AND STOP THINKING WE ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS. You are hurt and we are sincerely sorry. We have a plan." Nut said. I chose to believe her.
"Answer me, Lynn. Are you okay?" Hen asked
I shook my head, because I really felt sick, and it felt like it was not going to go away for a few days. I was seriously beginning to think I was coming down with something.
"We will have to get you to the general office, then, you have to go home." Nut said.
"No problem." I replied. Such a good idea to go home now, before I face the rest of my 'friends'. I then threw up again. Then, we went to the general office, for me to go home.
Reading the message again and again, Vera threw down her phone in frustration. She was sick and tired of doing shit for Rebecca and her bloody friends from hell. She wanted to rebel. And she knew how she would do it.
No matter how bitchy Onna was, she would never stoop to her level. Vera had her dignity and a reputation to keep up. This was one of the situations where it was better to listen to the old folks. Lying never worked, and it never would. Besides, it was risky to get Onna into such serious trouble. No, she would not.
If Vera had to scream and shout at Rebecca to get justice, she would.
For her plan to work though, she needed another strong-willed member of the Socialis. She called Hen.
The phone rang one, two, three times. Was Benrie... Vera recalled what happened that morning.
On the fourth ring, Benrie finally picked up.
"Hen. I know about this morning."
"What?"
"I'm not stupid! I even saw Rebecca standing there with that look on her face! And dude. You. Can't. Act."
Benrie heaved a sigh of relief. At least someone knew.
"By the way, I need your help. I don't want to do crap for any of them anymore. So listen up..."
Rebecca, can we meet after school to discuss Lynn?
Sure. I'd be more than happy to. You know what I mean.... 😉
Reading the last sentence, Vera rolled her eyes. Rebecca either had a weird sense of humour or was just totally twisted.
