When you awoke, the pain was gone. Still, you felt unbelievably tired, exhausted by life itself, and you wanted nothing more than just to cease existing, to never have to bear something similar again. It was the thought of Isa that extinguished this mindset.

They didn't even let you rest for a minute more, instead, as soon as they noticed you were awake, they told you that you had been a success, and yanked you out of bed to test you.

Your body didn't feel like your own anymore. It was more like a shell which you incidentally were able to move. It all made sense when they told you that you were now a chimera, a creature that was half human, half animal. That you were a specail kind that could change form at will. And then they asked you to try it out.

Oddly, it came naturally to you. Without thinking much, you turned yourself into your new, second form. A series of admiring exclamations came from your spectators as black fur began covering your skin, your size decreased and the whole structure of your body changed. Being a lot smaller than you were before, you crwaled out from under the white hospital gown you had been dressed in.

"This is the most holistic transformation a test subject has ever managed to perform", someone said. "However, hand in hand with this, the combat power suffers. So, this specimen should be used for infiltration and provision of information, more than fighting."

They continued talking, but you didn't listen anymore, as you tried to figure out how to use this new body of yours. Uncertain and clumsily, you took a few steps on your four paws. Soon, you figured out how to use your tail for balance. Your senses were enhanced, you could sense the dimension of the room you were in and smell every single person. Your eyesight had increased drastically, even though it was dark, you were able to see perfectly, as if there was daylight.

"Hey, you!" The loud voice ripped you from your thoughts. "Turn back. We have things to discuss."

Hesitantly, as you felt more confident in this body than in your own, you turned back into a human. To cover your exposed body, you immediately grabbed the white gown and put it on again.

One of the men adressed you directly.

"What's your name?", he asked.

"(Y/n) (l/n)", you answered shyly, voice still hoarse from the screaming.

"Can you write?"

You nodded.

"Do you think you are capable of doing paperwork?"

"What?", you asked, taken by surprise.

"Listen, (y/n)", the man said, taking a step towards you. "When you signed that papers, you agreed to being part of the military. You have to take our orders. And as you heard, you're not that fit for combat, which is why we will assign you to paperwork. When in action, you will gradually be able and requested to use that new ability of yours. But most importantly, just do what you are told."

"... Yes", you said.

"Yes, sir!", he barked, and you corrected yourself immediately.

You were not allowed to leave. Even though some part of you had always been aware of that fact, it still shook you. Thinking of Isa, you timidly asked about her.

"I don't know about any sister" the man growled, then turned to someone behind him. "Frank, take her to her room and give her a uniform. She'll start her training tomorrow morning."

"Yes, sir!", the younger man saluted and gestured you to follow him. The cold stone floor froze your bare feet, you were looking forward to getting shoes.

As soon as the two of you had left the room, Frank exhaled with relief. Apparently, he was just as scared of that man as you.

"You should be glad that you're leaving Central City soon", he said to you.

"I'm leaving?", you asked, panic starting to creep into your heart. You couldn't leave Central City, you had to stay were Isa was!

"Yes, as far as I've heard", he agreed. "They want to test you in action as soon as possible. But first of all, you'll undergo some training."

A silence arose, any your thought still lingered with your sister.

"Do you think I can visit someone in the hospital?", you asked.

The young man's shoulders sunk.

"I'm sorry", he said. "I have orders to lock your door."

"Oh."

Frank picked up a dark blue uniform and shoes for you and handed them to you to carry. Then, just as he had said, as soon as you had entered the small room with nothing more than a bed and a bathroom, you heard the sound of the lock. To be sure, you tried to open the door, but it didn't budge. Defeated, you sunk down on the bed. You felt like crying.

Until an idea hit you. You sat up quickly and checked out the window. You would be able to escape unnoticed, just not in human form. After opening the window to get ready, you walked into the bathroom. In front of the mirror, you transformed. Seeing what happened to you was even stranger than just feeling it, and you could just barely suppress a gasp, as suddenly a creature similar to a black cat, only slightly bigger and with a rougher appearance, was facing you.

Isa was breathing peacefully, she seemed to have gotten through the first treatment alright. You watched her for a long time, before you decided it'd be best to return and get some sleep. At least for the course of the training, even if they locked you up every day, you'd be able to come and see her in the nights.

'Take care, Isa', you told her in your mind, then jumped out of the window to return to your quarters.
