It had been surprising that Kimblee had been the one to snap you out of it and prevented you from killing yourself. And it had been surprising, that had just let you leave afterwards. Those were actions that you didn't deem typical for someone like him.
You wondered what he saw in you, what he wanted from you, but couldn't figure it out. You were disgusted by him, hated him, but you were also intrigued and thankful. He had saved you so many times, after all.
After your encounter, you had decided to do what Isa would have wanted you to do: help people. And so, you made your way to the refugee shelter Kanama to work and help the people taking shelter there. They were glad to have someone with your strength, and you even began to make use of the few medical abilities you had gained in your training, as there was no doctor present there. With your enhanced abilities, you found it to be far easier to patch people up than when you had still been human.
After a few weeks, you finally seemed to lighten up again, and get back to becoming something similar to your old self.
One day, you were surprises to see Ed arrive with two of Kimblee's chimeras, Heinkel and Darius, and another man whom you didn't know, but introduced himself as the leader, called Greed. You took a break from your hard work and tight scedule to talk to them.
"Are you still working with Kimblee?", Darius asked you and you shook your head. They were neither, so, being on the same side, they sat down with you to explain everything to you.
That the next day would be the Promised Day, where 'Father' would activate the nationwide transmutation circle and sacrifice the whole country. That the massacre in Wellsley had been part of that plan. And that Kimblee was working with the homunculi to achieve this goal.
To be honest, you weren't even shocked, by now, you knew exactly what kind of person Kimblee was - at least nearly exactly. Why he treated you the way he did was still a mystery.
"Will you join our fight?", Ed asked to conclude the talk.
"I will", you promised. That way, at least your life would have meaning again.

It was a strange night, despite your exhaustion, you even notived that something was wrong in your sleep. All the lights had gone out. Still, you were far too tired to concern yourself with electricity problems, so you just turned around on your mattress and continued your slumber.

The next day, you continued your work with the houses and your patients. You were busy and didn't think about anything else, until in the woods, not far from Kanama, you could hear explosions.
You stopped your work and focused your attention on what was going on over there.
"You should take a look, (y/n)", the man you had just patched up remarked. "I'm fine right now."
"Alright", you answered and stood up. "I'll go."
You packed up your medical equipment - maybe someone was in need of help - and exited the tent to enter the forest.
More explosions lead you the way, there was obviously some sort of fight going on. Your heart started beating fast at the thought of a certain person who used exactly this kind of alchemy in battle. And you just couldn't deny the hope in you that it was really him.
The scene you arrived to was just what you had expected. A battlefield. You gasped as you noticed who was fighting, and that you could make out a familiar white suit in the smoke.
He was really here. Kimblee, alongside a child, was fighting Alphonse Elric. It didn't take them long at all to notice your arrival, within seconds, all three of them turned to you.
"(Y/n)!", Al gasped. "Be careful, this is a homunculus!"
Apparently, Ed had already told him that you were on their side and was expecting you to join the fight.
"(Y/n)", Kimblee said, a bit surprised to see you here. "Why don't you lend us a hand?"
You just stood there, and again, just like in Baschool, had no idea who you were going to join in this fight. But you didn't even need to choose that quickly, since after the short pause of aknowledging your presence, the fight continued, leaving you standing at the edge of the forest, stumped and without knowing what to do.
In mere minutes, the fight paused again, because Al had let a cloud of dust emerge, successfully disrupting Kimblee's and the homunculus' view.
And suddenly, you felt the presence of more people, hiding in the dust cloud and not being noticed. They attacked from behind. Aiming right for Kimblee.
You didn't think anymore, you just dashes forward, transforming into your half-form mid-way to reach him faster, just listening to your instincts which were telling you to protect him at all costs. He wasn't allowed to die. You wouldn't be able to take losing him too.
You screamed, as you impacted with Kimblee at the same time that Heinkel, in his transformed form, did with him as well.
