Ayala and I ate in silence and left our plates in the corner. We curled up in the corner and fell asleep. I woke up to guards coming down the hallway again. The guards opened my cell and roughly grabbed me. They threw me around as they walked me down a lot of hallways. We got to a door and it slid open. They threw me inside and the door closed behind me.
There was a table and the guard, Mazew, was standing there. He looked up at me and nodded. He gestured for me to sit down and he walked over to another table with drinks. I sat down hesitantly. He came back and set a drink in front of me. He gestured towards it and sat across from me. Mazew pulled out a device from his pocket and set it in front of him. He turned it on and leaned back.
"Where are you from?" Mazew asked. The device was a translator, I realized. It was really shitty, though. It buzzed and crackled when Mazew spoke. It might've been a prototype or something. Maybe it was an older version.
"I'm from a planet called Earth." My heart was beating widely. "I'm not sure where it is, but it's in a galaxy called the Milky Way."
"What are you?" Mazew asked. "What is your species called?"
"I'm a human," I answered. "Why am I here?"
"We don't trust you yet," Mazew asked. "We will eventually. What's your name, pretty girl?"
"Zari," I answered. "You're Mazew, right?"
He nodded. "Are you a threat to the Klingon Empire?"
I shook my head. "No. I don't know how to fight really well and I don't want to put up a fight against someone who knows how to fight more than I do."
Mazew nodded, looking down at my drink. "Are you going to drink? The drink shouldn't go to waste."
I reached out and took the drink. I smelled it before taking a sip. It was didn't taste too bad. I took another sip before setting it down. I looked up at Mazew and he was staring at me. He was still quite attractive. He had jewelry on his ears and nose. He was in what looked like military clothes. The clothes were dark with some gold.
Mazew raised an eyebrow. "What are you staring at, pretty woman? See something you like?"
I set my jaw and glared at Mazew. "I don't feel attraction to my capturer."
A faint smile appeared on Mazew's face. "Sure you don't. Want to you think of this ship? Isn't it beautiful?"
"I don't know what to think," I answered. "I haven't seen much outside of my jail cell."
Mazew chuckled. "I will change that, my dear. Tomorrow I will show you around. For now, go back to your cell and rest."
I stood with Mazew. He walked me out, a hand placed on my lower back. He left me in the company of the guards and they took me back to the jail cells, their hands clamped on my arms.
I didn't struggle as they walked me through the ship. There were Klingons everywhere and they stepped aside as we walked by. They stared at me the entire way.
The two guards took me into the cells and tossed me roughly into mine. I fell to my hands and knees. Ayala came to my aid and helped me up.
"What did they do to you?" Ayala asked.
I leaned against the wall. "Nothing. I talked to one of the Klingons named Mazew. He just asked how I got here and where I'm from."
Ayala eyed me. "Did he do anything else? Hit you or threaten you?"
I shook my head. "No. He was actually really nice to me, which was surprising."
Ayala still looked concerned. "Are you telling the truth?"
I nodded. "He didn't do anything. He gave me a drink and we talked. It was nice, actually."
"Do you think the drink was poisoned?"
I shook my head. "I don't think it was. It didn't taste like it."
Ayala patted my shoulder. "We shall see, Zari. These Klingons are ruthless to people who aren't their own."
I rolled my shoulders. "I can tell. I'll be fine. Don't worry about me, Ayala."
Ayala still looked at me in concern, but she dropped it. We sat down against the wall in silence, leaning on each other and falling asleep like that.
