Horrible Suggestions

"How about Bianca?", Magnus chimed, after a few minutes of uncomfortable silence between the four. Yet none of them had come up with any names for the girl except for Magnus. Magnus had many, many names to suggest ,as he was the oldest of them all, but none of them seemed to quite sound like they fit the child.

Magnus reached for the girl and Clary handed her over with a smile as the baby giggled when Magnus' glitter fell around her. "Bianca!", Magnus said to her in a sing-song voice. She made a face and she squinted her eyes shut for a second and when she opened them again they had returned to its white-gray hue. "Oh, Bianca is not such a terrible name", Magnus protested, and the girl giggled once more.

Alec laughed while he whispered the name to himself. His head hung and his shoulders shook with the type of laugh he seemed to reserve solely for Magnus, Clary had observed. "Good one, Magnus", he said in between his laughs. Both Jace and Clary looked to the warlock expecting an explanation. Magnus smirked but, said nothing. Jace looked to his left where Alec sat next to him and his eyebrows furrowed while he gave him a questioning look. "It's Italian, Jace", Alec explained but, continued smiling.

After a second, Jace smiled with him. "Very funny, Warlock",He said to Magnus,"Still not a very good name... but funny" Clary still didn't understand and said,"My Italian is pretty rusty so, I have no idea what you three are talking about" Jace smiled to her remembering a time when he spoke to Clary in that very language and how she had not understood. How the times have changed us, Jace thought, bits and pieces but still we remain, and he smiled again.

Still waiting, he answered Clary's unasked question, "Bianca means white in Italian, Clary. Magnus wants to name her White because of her eyes, you see?", he finished, pointing to where Magnus stood with the baby.

Clary turned to see the child's eyes had went back to a white-gray color. Beautiful but, if she hadn't known better, she'd have thought the girl was blind. "Woah",was all she could seem to say. Clary tried to imagine any other baby with white eyes but, she couldn't without seeing them as terrifying.

This baby however was exactly the opposite. Beautiful and complex and strange. Very strange indeed.

Clary wondered how much Shadowhunter blood ran in the child's veins, out of curiosity. Then again, she was probably just thinking of her brother, and if that child was just another person's sick experiments. Then Clary felt a terrible fear for the baby as she imagined the Clave's possible reactions and she shuddered.

"Clary, do you mind, biscuit?",Magnus asked sweetly. "Come here, strange one", Clary whispered as Magnus handed her over. Magnus stretched his arms above his head and yawned, all very cat-like. The four had realized ,not so subtly, that the girl had not liked to be put down. Or screaming. She most definitely did not like anything of the sort.

"Mira?", Jace asked rather confidently.

"Oh, no. No Herondale is naming any child of mine. Especially not Jace Herondale",Magnus said in a rather sarcastic tone. "Well, it's a rather good thing we have decided she is our child",Alec protested just as sarcastic. Magnus scoffed but, smiled. Jace smirked in the Warlock's direction. "What name did you say, Jace?", Alec asked.

"Mira",Jace repeated in a superior tone. "That's pretty", Clary chimed in.

"I know", he told her around a wide smile. "It's Latin", he said cooly.

"Latin for what?",Alex questioned. Jace waved a hand at him,"Not important". "I'll figure it out eventually Jace",Alec threatened. Jace laughed but said nothing.

"Well then, I guess a Herondale just named your baby, Magnus", he remarked, looking at his boyfriend with good intentions. "What happened to our baby, Alexander?", Magnus replied innocently, while he batted his long, glittery eyelashes.

Alec ignored him and went back to discussing the name.

"Should we give her a middle name?", Alec suggested. Clary looked to Alec, Jace, and Magnus, and was almost about to say yes, when she thought better of it. She searched her brain quickly of ways to tell Alec it was hard enough to find a first name for Mira. "Well, a middle name for her would be fine and all but, I rather like the sound of Mira Lightwood Bane",Clary said as politely as she could. "It's also a damn mouthful",Jace saying, what Clary didn't want to.

"Well, I was thinking Maryse would be a nice middle for her, I guess",Alec said sheepishly. The smile disappeared from Jace's face and Magnus smiled sadly at Alec. "I just didn't want her name to die out, you know?",Alec asked, looking to Jace. Jace leaned on the table cleared of weapons and thought. Because he did know. Maryse was just as much Jace's mother as Alec's, or Izzy's. Or Max's.

Maryse was so strong. Keeping together her broken family and, running the Institute by herself. Standing by her unfaithful husband, and watching him leave, after raising three children together. She was very strong indeed.

Jace decided he didn't want her name to die with her either.

"Mira Maryse Lightwood-Bane",Jace said, hoping no one would object to the lengthy name; And no one did.

Alec spoke up,"Hello, little Mira. What a beautiful name, for a beautiful baby" He walked across the room and Clary handed her over without a word. She smiled at Alec,"She's going to have a hard time getting a date considering she now has two, very powerful dads and all"

She giggled, blinked, and her eyes turned as blue as Alec's. Alec laughed,"Isn't it funny that she can, most likely, turn her eyes any color, and she doesn't even seem aware that it's happening"

Magnus snickered,"I think it's funny that she can, most likely, turn her eyes any color and they keep turning blue" Alec flushed. Jace laughed and walked where Clary sat, on the table, her legs swinging back and forth, not yet quite touching the floor. He leaned against the table where her legs where parted and she wrapped both her arms about Jace's shoulders, and her legs about his hips.

"Why won't Mira turn her eyes the color of my eyes?",Jace asked, slightly fake-pouting. Clary didn't buy his lip-pouting rouse but, still suggested,"Maybe they're too beautiful for her irises to withstand" Jace exhaled, and smiled. "Magnus and Alec aren't married yet, they have a child together",he stated simply. "Crazy isn't it?",Clary replied,as she pulled Jace closer to her and rested her head on his shoulder.

Magnus had gone to taking pictures of Alec and Mira, then turning the phone to include himself in the pictures, as well, when the Institute's doors began to open once again. "Jace, would you mind getting that, please? Or Clary?",Magnus called to them in between pictures.

"We got it",Jace told him as he gripped Clary's legs before she could react. He whispered,"Hang tight". Clary could almost see him smiling as he said it. She laughed and scrambled to hold on, as Jace ran for the weapon's room doors.
