Magnets {A Choni AU}

Chapter 1- Cheryl's POV

A/N: Hey guys! This story is adapted from a one shot I wrote in my collection about two other characters- certain parts have been taken out/added/modified to suit the new characters. I was reading through the older one shot and I thought the scenarios suited Choni- so here we are!

Context: Cheryl has transferred to Riverdale High from another school in the area. She already has two friends that she knows there: Veronica and Betty. (Fangs and Sweetpea make an appearance but the other characters from the show do not.)

"Is there anyone else I need to avoid?"
With a small shrug of her shoulders, Veronica leant back in her chair.
"Toni Topaz, I guess."
"You...guess?"
"She doesn't seem like the nicest person, but I don't talk to her much- she has a bit of a reputation"
"You can't tell me that and expect me not to be intrigued."

She rolled her eyes, a small smile toying at her lips.
"Some people like to swoon over her. A lot of other people have told me she's self-centred."
"Self-centred?"
"Apparently she's screwed a lot of people over because she can only think about herself."
"Oh."
Veronica laughed slightly.
"I don't know, that's just what I've heard."
"Well...I guess I'll have to see."
She let out an exaggerated sigh.

"What does she look like? Is she pretty?"
Veronica rolled her eyes.
"I don't know...I guess? She has brown eyes, pink hair and tattoos....she's kind of short...that's all I really notice about her."
Clearly noticing that I was intrigued, she shook her head, a knowing smile on her face.
"I'm just saying you should probably stay away from her- Observe from a distance if you have to."

I raised my arms in defeat.
"Okay."
She smiled again and handed her cup to me.
"Can you put this in the bin?"
I looked over to the other side of the room and rolled my eyes, taking her cup and grabbing my own.
"Why do they only have one bin in this place?"

She shrugs.
"No idea."
I stood up and began to walk over, immediately noticing various paintings on the walls. My eyes darted across each one as I walked and I realised too late that I was going to crash into someone.

"Shi- Oh gosh, sorry, I didn't mean-"
A small laugh interrupted me.
"It's fine, the paintings are pretty distracting."
"Yeah...they are...I-"
I stopped abruptly when my eyes began to roam her face, sweeping over her brown eyes and her long pink hair, then her lips. I glanced down at her arms to see various tattoos scattered along them. The confidence I usually would've had vanished. She was beautiful.

Was this the girl Veronica had told me about?

"Um...Toni?"
She folded her arms in an almost smug fashion, an eyebrow raised in question.
"Yeah....that's my name." she teased, grabbing the cups from my hand and tossing them in the nearby bin. Her voice was slightly taunting, yet  soft.

"Okay, um, I'll head off now." I said quickly, internally cursing myself for seeming so nervous. I turned around to walk away.
"Wait."
She gently grabbed my hand. I turned around and raised an eyebrow.
"You can't walk away without telling me your name, seeing as you know mine."
I felt my face begin to grow hot.
"It's Cheryl."
She paused for a moment as her eyes scanned my face.
"Cheryl...that suits you."
I couldn't help but smile.

"I'll see you around, Cheryl."

Her lips curved into a small smirk as she turned around and walked towards her group of friends. For a moment, I stood dumbfounded, watching as she moved away. That was Toni Topaz?

I quickly snapped out of it.

"Yeah...right." I murmured, turning to see Veronica sniggering behind me.
"So much for observing from a distance." she joked, wrapping an arm around my shoulders and leading me out of the café.
"Yeah, well....shit happens."
"Oh trust me, I know."

A/N: So this chapter was mostly for context/to set up the story, but we'll see more of Toni in the next chapter!
