~*takes place a week later*
"Mine looks better."
"Keep telling yourself that, Ronnie."
"Oh come on, it's so obvious!"
"Cheryl, what do you think?"
I shook my head at the pair and looked at the phone.I had invited them both over for the night and Veronica had suggested they try a 'hair braiding competition' because of an argument they had over who would be a better hair dresser. I don't even know how they started talking about it.
"Hair dressers usually cut or dye hair- even if one of you had a nicer braid, you'd both have no chance."
"Wow, thanks Cheryl."I smiled as I looked at the side by side picture of their braids.
"But Betty's was definitely better. Sorry Ronnie."
She folded her arms.
"Favouritism."
Betty laughed.I was almost certain I could hear someone knocking at the front door. Leaving the pair to playfully bicker back and forth, I stood up and walked down the hall. My heart lept when I peered through the glass and noticed Toni standing there, practically doubled over. I fumbled with the lock and quickly opened the door.
She stood there for a moment, breathing heavily. Her pink lipstick was slightly smudged and her eyes were widened slightly. I was genuinely frustrated at how stunning she looked without trying; all flowing pink hair, lipstick and leather pants. Good god.
"Toni?"
"Hi there."
"Is something wrong?"
"I just got chased by a dog and yours is the closest house I could run to."
"Sorry- what?"Clearly realising how ridiculous she may have sounded, Toni smiled and shook her head.
"Okay, Okay, I know, but I swear that dog was vicious."
I couldn't help but giggle.
"You can come in, the evil dog won't find you in here."As Toni walked in with a small, defeated 'thanks', I closed the door behind her and curiously peered through the glass.
"It's pretty dark out there, are you sure your mind wasn't tricking you?"
"No way. I swear- I was walking past this house with a low fence and it started barking and scratching at it- then it just jumped over! I've never ran so fast in my life.""Wow. Toni is brought to her downfall by a vicious dog."
"It wasn't just a vicious dog. It was a literal demon dog."
Despite the situation, I couldn't help but laugh.
"How big was it?"
"It was a chihuahua, so small."
"A chihuahua?"
"Yes."
"Okay, well you can stay here for now if you want, Cha-Cha."My heart skipped a beat when a faint smirk came to her lips.
"Cha-Cha?"
"Oh, don't try to turn the embarrassment on me, Topaz. You're the one that just got chased by a chihuahua."
"Touché." she responded, her voice unbelivably smooth. When I turned around, I saw Veronica and Betty standing at the doorway, looking on in puzzlement.
"Cheryl, what is she doing here?"
I hurriedly glanced at Toni, then back to Veronica.
"Um...she was chased by a dog and this was the nearest place to go."
"Chased by...a dog?" Veronica asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yes."
"Okay...how does she know where you live?"
"We uh....we've walked home together once to talk about English homework."Toni smirked.
"Well, you're welcome to watch videos with us if you want? Or we could go on Omegle"."
Betty smiled. Veronica pointedly looked away.
"That sounds fun."When the pair retreated into the living room, Toni looked over at me.
"Wow, they love me, don't they?"
I smiled and looked away.
"Deep down."I paused.
"This way." I said eventually, beginning to feel out of breath from even standing in the same room as her. Toni's eyes lingered on my face, which I could feel was getting gradually redder by the second, before looking away again.
