I had forgotten about the envelop my dad gave me until I found it a week later stashed in a drawer. I opened it up and there was a piece of paper and a ring.

The letter read "Dear Bailey, enclosed in this envelope you will find a ring. You may be confused on why I am giving you a ring of such value, but this gift is given with my best interest at heart. This ring was one I planned to purpose to your mother with. As you know we never married and your mother cheated on me with another man. I planned to get engaged to her a week after you were born but my plans were cut short. I don't want you to think of your mother as a bad person for cheating on me. She really was a great person, she was just at the wrong place at the wrong time... once or twice. Bailey I truly want you to know I am serious about being in your life. I promise I won't leave again. Love from, Your dad."

I read the letter and started crying. It made me think of Sarah and my mother and how happy we had been as a family. Now they are gone and my dad has entered my life and my best friend is dying. My life has been turned upside down and I finally had someone who wasn't going anywhere. I had a lot to think about.

"What's that?" Logan asks as she enters my room.

"Just something my dad gave me."

"And that ring?" 

"It was going to be my mom's. You know my dad only left because my mom broke his heart."

"No way! Really?"

"Yeah. So I was thinking about giving him a second chance."

"Well if he really means it I would totally say to give him one."

"Thanks Loges." I hugged her and then she left my room.
