Adelaide's POV
The salty wind ruffled my hair as I walked along the beach of Blackcombe Valley with Jade Walker, my best friend. The school holidays had just started, leaving us with complete and utter boredom. Luckily, me and Jade lived close together, meaning endless slumber parties and many pillow fights, ending with mostly me winning. Nearly everything we had was at my house, since I lived right near the beach. Having rich parents had their pros and cons. I am not that close with my parents and have no clue where they are. They left me at the age of 3 and now I live with my Cousin sister who is the same as me. She is like my second sister to me. She was there every step of the way from Day care, Primary school, High school and now. I don't know where I would be without her.
Currently, we were just messing around, splashing each other and, in general just having fun. I had met Jade when I moved in from New Zealand, about eleven years ago, when one day, she forgot her pencil case in school and asked me for one of my pencils, which I replied with a stubborn 'no'. Instead of getting mad, which was ideal for her age, she had just chuckled at me and asked me again. This time, I was hesitant in giving my answer, and in the end, I caved in and just answered with a yes, while turning up my nose to her and crossing my arms. Much of it was a blur afterwards, but I did remember how her eyes had softened and she had looked at the seat beside me, and then sat in it slowly, as if she wasn't sure what she was doing. After that, we were inseparable, getting in trouble together, going everywhere together, and even walked home together. I told her everything, ranging from what I ate for dinner to who I liked. She did the same.
"Watch out, Adelaide!" My thoughts were abruptly cut off by Jade's voice. I shook my head to clear out the thoughts and I looked up, just as my body stumbled into a brick wall. As I stumbled back, the wall's arms shot out and caught my arms, trying to stable me. Though, the surprise of a wall having arms made me lose my footing and then down we went. Wait a second, walls didn't have arms. This must be a person! Silly me.....
Somehow, I ended up on top of the person who in return groaned as they bumped their head on the ground. I opened my eyes and stared at the guy for what felt like a long time out of shock. It felt as if I had seen him before, but I couldn't remember where or when. The guy had black, spiky hair along with a pair of light grey eyes that resembled a storm. He was around 6'2, which was quite a bit taller than my frame. He had broad set shoulders and a strong jaw that looked as if it could cut through the strongest steel. He was drool-worthy.
"Are you going to get off me or what?" He said slowly. "Or are you enjoying it too much?" He had the audacity to look smug while he said the last part, almost as an afterthought.
I gaped at him for a second, before slapping him without hesitating. His head snapped sideways, but instead of getting mad, he just looked more playful, and dare I say, more determined.
I immediately blushed and ducked my head down, standing up quickly and brushing myself off. I heard Jade snicker really loudly. I shot her a glare to tell her that she better shut up. She just looked down instead, and started laughing silently.
"S-Sorry! I'm so sorry! Are you okay?"
"I guess so.." He trailed off unsurely at my change of mood.
I looked up to see that he wasn't wearing a T-shirt. You could see his toned body and damn those abbs.
Focus Adelaide, Focus.
Butterflies fluttered in my stomach, telling me it was time to go. I gave Jade a little nod, as if to say, "Let's go. I don't want any trouble with these two." Because she knew me well, she knew what I was saying and luckily, she complied. We started walking away quickly, trying to escape. Unfortunately, the grip on my phone loosened with relief as I managed to walk a bit without being stopped, and I dropped my phone. The guy was quicker than me, which is why he managed to grab my phone before me. As soon as he had it in his grasp, he held it up so that I wouldn't be able to grab it. Damn his tall frame. He was doing something on my phone. I don't like to keep a lockpin on my phone.....i wish i had one right now. I tried getting it back, but he was too tall, even though I was 5'8. I didn't know what he was doing, but after some time, he gave it back to me. I snatched it from his outstretched hand and give him a heated glare. Instead of getting angry back at me, he just gave a cute, dimpled smile, that could melt many feminine hearts. I got fluttered, but ignore it and started walking away again, grabbing Jade's hand in the progress.
"Someone has a little crush on someone! Awww! That was so cute! You should've seen your face! It was red!" She started guffawing with laughter. I punched her arm lightly, then started laughing with her.
"Well, today was fun. I'll see you tomorrow?" I said goodbye to Jade when we were going home.
"Yeah. I'll come over to yours again. Bye!"
When I got to my entrance door I got a buzz from my phone. I unlocked it and saw that I got a message from an unknown person. I ignored it for a second and opened the door. When I got in, Catherine wasn't home. For a second, I started panicking, but then remembered that she told me that she was taking an extra shift. I dropped onto the sofa and checked my phone. Then I remembered the unknown number that messaged me. It read:
"hey Pooh Bear"
"Who are you?" I replied.
"Zane"
"You might as well be this 'Zane', but I still don't know who you are, do I?"
"Ooo feisty I like it"
"I repeat, who are you? Answer the question."
"The guy u slapped this morning. I do hope u remember"
"Oh, you! How did you get my number??"
"When u dropped ur phone and I took it and I put my number in"
"What do you want from me?"
"I want u to meet me near the school café."
"Mr. Whatever-It-Is, is this you asking me on a date?"
"Davis."
"What?"
"My last name's Davis."
"Oh."
"And not exactly we can go as friends if you want."
"What makes you think that I will come?"
"Well, coz you fell on me and slapped me, you owe me an expressó."
"I am not spending $3 on just one cup of Shit."
"Expressó isn't shit"
"Well it is to me! I hate coffee!"
"Then what about hot coco?"
"No."
"We can share it"
"Fuck off."
"Then what? You still have to buy me something"
"Would a piece of rock work?"
"Ha ha very funny."
"I will decide when I meet you at the café in a few minutes."
"Ok, better be something good"
Sad days. Now I had to waste my money on buying a stranger fucking coffee. I chuckled as I got off the phone. I grabbed the house and bike keys, my phone, and purse and walked out. I got on my bike and revved the engine. Then, I sped down the road in a flash.
