Dauntless-Born

Chapter 5

I walk to the dinning hall with the Dauntless born. When we get there all the members start shouting and cheering and making noise like they do every year. I smile and sit down at a table with Lauren, Shauna, Zeke, Uriah, Marlene, and Lynn. Lauren got over the fact that I was with Four so we are kinda friends now. A few minutes later Four and the transfers walk in. Once again everyone starts shouting and cheering. Four sees me and sits next to me.

"They are not cool" He says. I laugh.

"Whatever." He leans in and kisses me. I gladly kiss back. We break apart when Uri shouts,

"No PDA" our whole group laughs and me and Four blush.

Christina sits next to me and two other transfers sit across from her.

"Hey" she says.

"Hi" I smile. Usually transfers and Dauntless born to talk to each other but she seems nice.

Christina looks at Four and then at her food. God he must have really scared her.

"Uh who are the transfers?" Lynn asks.

"Lynn be nice" I say. "And this is Chris and I don't know them" I say motioning towards the two boys.

"I'm Will" one says.

"I'm Al" the other one says. We nod.

Will, Al and Chris keep talking about their old factions. They really shouldn't do that.

"Enough. I don't want to hear about your old factions! You're Dauntless now." Four says.

They look scared.

"So uh were any of you transfers?" Will asks us.

We all look up and down at ourselves and then at him.

"Do we look like transfers?" Lynn says.

"Uh- well..." He starts.

"Just shut up" Four says.

I look at him and glare. He looks away and Uriah starts laughing.

"Ooh big bad Four is scared of Tris!!!" He says.

"Uri I wouldn't say that if I were you" Zeke says.

"I'm not scared if Tris!" Four shouts.

"Okay let's not get into this right now please" I say.

Four looks at me, rolls his eyes and gets up. Everyone looks at their food and stays quiet. I groan.

I get up and run to go find him. I go to the chasm and see him sitting there.

"Tobias.." I start but he cuts me off.

"Don't Tris" he says spitting the words out like poison.

"Tobias I'm sorry okay"

"Sorry for what? Making me look like a coward in front of all our friends? And the initiates?"

"Tobias everyone knows you're not a coward"

"But I am. I only came here to get away from him." I know who he's talking about. And it's true that's his only reason for coming here. I have no doubts that if his dad hadn't done that to him he would have stayed in Abnegation. But he made it through initiation. In first. He is strong now. He isn't Tobias.. The abused little bot from Abnegation. He's Four... Dauntless prodigy.

"What you did may have been a cowards way out but you have proven so many times that you are not a coward" I say as I sit next to him. He won't look at me so I take his face in my hands.
