Part 4
It's alright - it's okay
Take whatever comes our way
Together we will stay
I got three words to say
Never say never
Brandy ~Never Say Never

In the midst of our search for a new home, the unexpected discovery of Alice left us stunned. She appeared rugged and weather-beaten, a stark contrast to the clean and composed girl we once knew. Yet, despite her appearance, we rushed to her side, embracing her tightly in a show of solidarity and love. With Alice back in our midst, we pressed on with our journey, hopeful for better prospects ahead.

As we walked further, the surroundings began to improve, the streets bustling with activity and the people appearing more welcoming. It was as if a glimmer of hope had emerged amidst the uncertainty, filling me with a sense of cautious optimism.

Finally, we arrived at our designated home, tucked away at the end of a row of houses. Though small in size, it held the promise of a fresh start, reminiscent of the corner house I once called home. Despite its modest appearance, we were determined to make it work, pooling together our skills and resources to transform it into a place of comfort and belonging.

Inside, we found a few pieces of furniture – chairs, a hotplate, pots, a table, a mattress, and blankets. With some rearranging and a bit of creativity, the tiny space began to feel more like a home. As we settled in, cleaning ourselves up and tending to the needs of the baby, a sense of warmth and familiarity enveloped us, reminding us that no matter where life may lead us, as long as we had each other, we could face whatever challenges lay ahead with courage and resilience.

As evening descended upon us, hunger gnawed at our stomachs, reminding us of our need for sustenance. Brenda and I ventured outside, navigating the bustling streets until we reached a security officer stationed near the imposing gates. With trepidation, we approached him, our voices laced with uncertainty as we inquired about where to obtain our food.

"We just arrived today and we were wondering where we can get our groceries," I explained hesitantly, hoping for a helpful response.

The security officer pointed in the direction of a nearby building, indicating that they would provide us with the provisions we needed. Grateful for his guidance, we made our way to the designated location, collecting our food supplies before heading back to the house where our companions awaited us eagerly.

As we distributed the groceries among us, the weight of our newfound responsibility settled upon our shoulders. No longer were our meals prepared for us by a loving mother; now, we were tasked with feeding ourselves and each other. It was a sobering realization, one that underscored the gravity of our situation.

In the quiet moments that followed, I couldn't help but feel a sense of fear and apprehension. This was a completely unfamiliar world, and we were forced to adapt to it quickly. Remembering my father's words – "Trust your instinct as your best guide in life" – I took solace in the wisdom he imparted, drawing strength from his guidance in navigating this uncertain terrain.

With our hunger temporarily sated by a simple meal of bread and tea, exhaustion weighed heavily upon us, a tangible reminder of the events that had transpired throughout the day. As we settled down for the night, the comfort of the cozy blankets enveloped us, providing a sense of security amidst the chaos. And as sleep washed over us, I found solace in the realm of dreams, where the uncertainties of the waking world were momentarily suspended, and where my father's words echoed softly, guiding me through the darkness into the embrace of sleep.
