Dear Diary,
Ok so I just arrived here and I already HATE it. I see groups of girls here at camp. Tall and tanned from the Hawaiin sun. I stick out a mile. Then on the other side I see boys. 'Yuck' I said in my head. Me and Maddie hate most boys.
"Never be afraid to be a poppy in a field of daffodils- Michaela DePrince" I muttered to myself. I looked around at everyone and I suddenly didn't think I was a poppy anymore. A girl my age skipped towards me.
"Hi, you must me new!" she said to me. It was more a statement than a question. Her accent wasn't the American one I expected but it sounded familiar.
"Yeah if the suitcase isn't any hint!" I said.
"What country are you from? Your accent sounds familiar." I asked her.
"The land of leprechauns and fairies." she told me.
"The land of what?" I asked
"Ireland. I'm from Ireland!" she said rolling her  eyes.
"No wonder your accent sounds so familiar. I have an aunt from Ireland. She my godmother actually."
"Cool! Your Cassandra right?" she asked.
"Yeah but you can call me Cassie."
"I'm Emily by the way." she linked arms with me.
"Your in my cabin Cassie." she said leading me towards a line of about ten pretty blue and white cabins. They looked quite big.

She took me inside. When we got in we were in a sort of living room with lots of big couches and a huge TV. There were two doors on the wall opposite the door and a staircase to the left of the door leading down to some sort of basement. She led me over to the door on the right.
"Your bed is on here." She said. "It's right next to mine!"
The room was huge. There was about twenty beds (ten on each side) each with a large chest of drawers, bedside table, a trunk at the end of the bed and a closet separating each girls "section". There was also a pretty white curtain with a flower pattern at the front of each girls section for extra privacy. I unpacked all of my clothes and put them in my closet. Next I took out my teddies, stationary, button phone, posters, family pictures, pictures with Maddie, schoolbooks and all the other stuff I had brought with me and put it away. I started putting pillows and blankets that I brought on my bed (the signup form required that each girl brought their own pillows and blankets). I put my fairy lights on my headboard and turned them on. Last I tacked up my posters and pictures and tried out the curtain that surrounded my section so I could have my privacy when I get dressed.

I called my mum but it went straight to voicemail. I sighed and threw it onto my bed. It was no use. I was stuck here for over a year. It's just NOT FAIR! I decided to go for a walk so I could get to know the place. I saw a pool house, a little shop, a cafe, a dining hall and in the distance I could see a beach. There was a nice bench under a tall shady tree that I sat down on. In the distance I could see a huge volcano. It sent a shiver down my spine. Why am I even here I asked myself. I mean I know that mum and dad are getting divorced but why couldn't I have stayed in England with mum and Maddie and all my other friends. I started crying, the sobbing. Tears ran down my face making big black lines of mascara. I knew I looked a state but I didn't care.

Next think I knew it started raining which is weird because I thought it was usually sunny in Hawaii. I was wrong obviously. After about five minutes of sitting in the pouring rain my hair went frizzy. Then suddenly the rain stopped. I mean I could still see drops pouring out of the sky but it had stopped raining on me. I looked up and saw a black umbrella and a tall good looking boy holding it.
"Hi." he said in this strangely tough American accent. "Why all the tears?" he continued sitting down beside me. He had glittering green  eyes, glossy brown hair and tanned skin.
"None of your business." I snapped, turning away. He ignored my rudeness and said:
"By the way my name is Jakob. Jakob Edwards." he said. I rolled my eyes.
"By the way, I really don't care." I said, standing up to walk away. He got up and followed me.

It had stopped raining and there was a rainbow in the sky. The sun was shining. It must have just been a passing shower.
"What's your name?" he asked me, blatantly ignoring my rudeness. Again.
"Cassandra" I muttered.
"Nice name." he said. I rolled my eyes for like, the third time in five minutes.
"Please go away!" I said
"Why?" he asked.
"Because your annoying me okay!?"
"How am I annoying you?"
"Because... because you just are!" I snapped. He laughed
"Your not a very happy camper. No pun intended." I sighed
"Goodbye." I said, being sarcastically upbeat. He raised his hands as if to say 'I surrender'. I turned away from him and walked towards my cabin. I smiled because I knew that boys weren't allowed in the girls cabin and visa versa.
"Where were you!?" Emily screamed in my face as soon as I got into my dorm.
"Uh... I went for a walk?" I said uncertainty. "By the way, do you know Jakob Edwards?" I asked her.
"Well it would be hard not to!" she laughed
"What does that mean?" I enquired.
"Well he's like, one of the most popular boys in camp. You'd have to be someone like Tiffany to  have a chance with him."
"Oh." I said indifferently.
"Why are you asking? Because if you like him
or something, it better stop now!"
"No! I don't like him! I just bumped into him on my walk." I said.
"Well stay away from him. He's bad news. I heard he and his sister got expelled before because of some connection with cocaine."
"Cocaine!?" I exclaimed.

"Yeah I know." she said. Then we heard a loud bell.
"What's that?" I asked.
"Oh it's the dinner bell!" she replied. "Let's go get food!"
"Oh! Let's go!" I said and we headed towards a big building that I had seen earlier on my walk.
