The moment lunch arrived everyone was in a frenzy talking about the new kid. It seemed ridiculous to gossip and focus all your energy on some kid that wouldn't notice you. Except I'd just be mean for saying that because this kid actually did notice me. I couldn't wait to tell Christie and Tyler but decided to remain cool and collected.
When I reached the table my friends sat at they were deep into discussion. When I say friends, its really just Christie and a few people she knows. Imagine how sad it'd be if it was just the two of us? Yeah, I know. Pretty depressing.
"All I'm saying is that if I meet him first, I call dibs!" Sarah, I think was her name, exclaimed loudly. Apparently the new kid was a big deal.
"Sure, but remember: whoever talks to him first is the true winner," Christie smiled devilishly. She always did love boys and a challenge, so when you combined two it was just meant for her.
"You're talking about Luke Emerson?" I piped in, causing heads to snap my way. I had a full table of five girls total looming at me as if there was something wrong with me. "What? Is there something on my face?"
"That's his name?" Emily shouted.
"What? Uh, yeah."
"Did you talk to him?" Sarah got extremely close to me, begging for answers.
"Yeah, I just had class with him. He's pretty cool," I calmly stated. Was it so wrong to feel a bit superior compared to the rest for once because you had something they wanted? If so, then take me straight to jail! I never liked these girls and they never liked me, so I finally felt a bit empowered.
"You're kidding me, right?" Sarah turned to, I think, Caitlin, "She doesn't count for the dibs game does she?"
"I'm still here," I whispered lightly.
"Yeah, Sarah. She sits with us and the rules say that if its anyone in our group. She's Christie's friend, which immediately means she is in." Sarah groaned loudly, slamming her head back on the table. "Guess you win, Andrea." Caitlin smiled sweetly.
"Finally! Andrea finally has an advantage on a hot one!" Heads turned to see Christie's outburst. She jumped up and wrapped her arms around me. I could die from these kinds of hugs, because her grip was so tight on me.
For the rest of lunch everyone was busy talking about the new kid. Surprisingly Luke hadn't made an appearance, and I was kind of disappointed at that too.
Someone sat down beside be abruptly, and the whole - and I do mean the entire population - of the cafeteria was in silence. I didn't know why, because I got tired and pulled my hoodie over my head to sleep. Then a husky voice that could make any girl melt cooed in my ear.
"Does everyone normally act like this?" I looked up to find none other that the devil himself, Luke Emerson. I sat straight up and observed my surroundings. Oh yeah, these kids were waiting for Luke's next move.
"It seems that you're all that they'll rave about today. Guess you're a big deal?" I get it if the entire student body were fond of his dashing good looks or pearl white smile, but it seemed like he was a celebrity in our own town. "You're not incredibly famous or rich, are you?" I asked him curiously.
He gave a chuckle and shook his head. "No," he sighed, "unfortunately, I am not."
I couldn't figure out why the cafeteria still remained silent. I looked over at Christie, finally taking my eyes off of Luke. Her eyes were fixated on us and her mouth was slightly ajar. She mouthed 'sex god'. I gave her a small smile and faced Luke again.
