We just finished our choir/orchestra/band concert in the Cathedral, which was televised by the local news. I wait until they're done interviewing Laura before we both squeal and hug each other."That's so cool, what questions did he ask you? You know I don't speak Ger—"
I stop when I see Laura looking over my shoulder with wide eyes. I turn my body to follow her gaze only to find-"Hello again Jen. Laura." Jeremy smiles, holding a single flower and a small piece of paper. I can sense people staring at us and whispering in recognition, but I ignore them.
"Wow, Jeremy it's great to see you again!" I give him a hug. "What are you doing here? You said last night that your flight would leave this morning."
He smiles, then hands me the flower. "My ex-girlfriend got on that flight. I decided my visit to Europe wasn't over yet." I bite my lip, trying not to blush. He continues, "And Laura told me last night about your concert."
I turn briefly to raise my eyebrows at her, and she shrugs innocently. I roll my eyes but mouth, "thank you," before turning back around to Jeremy.
"Well, thank you so much for the flower Jeremy. I still can't believe you're here right now!" I smile big, lifting the flower to my nose.
He smiles, looking down at his feet briefly. "I still can't believe we never talked about why you came here. Orchestra AND choir?! Which, by the way, sounded great."
I blush, glancing at our spectators for a second before grabbing his arm and pulling him to a more discrete part of the cathedral. "If you keep complimenting me Jer, I'm going to keep thanking you and you already know I'm terrible at taking compliments." I tuck some hair behind my ear and release him.
He holds up his hands in surrender with a smirk. "I promise, I'll stop saying nice things now."
I laugh. "Good." I lean back against the wall, facing everyone, and Jeremy moves to do the same. It's unnerving how many people are paying attention to us right now. I mean, not that many people are, but I'm used to being invisible.
"So, these change of plans, what are they?" I tilt my head to look at him.
"Well," he turns to look at me as well, "for starters, I give you this." That's when I felt him press the little piece of paper into my hand.
I look down, opening it to find a phone number and address. I look up at him with a smile. "What's this?"
He gives me a look. "And to think I thought you were a smart girl."
I laugh, giving him a playful shove. "I didn't realize I impacted your life all that much. Other than ruining your shirt and helping you kill some time."
He smiled sweetly, waiting until I looked up at him before saying, "You did help me kill some time. But because you're really funny and we have similar tastes. I'd like to think we've become friends in the last 24 hours, and I like to keep in contact with my friends."
I look back down at the piece of paper, biting my lip and smiling. I look up, "I'll put this in my phone as soon as we get on the bus."
He grins. "Good to know."
"Oh! But get the app Whatsapp."
He raises his eyebrows. "Whatsapp?"
I nod. "It's how I communicate with Laura without the high prices. It's a texting/calling app that lets you avoid international fees."
He makes a impressed face. "Good to know."
I lean my head against the wall, still looking at him. "So if your trip in Europe isn't over, where are you headed next?"
He scrunches his face in concentration. "Well, I'm staying in Vienna for a couple more days so we might bump into each other then. But after that I'm thinking I'll head over to England and Ireland, I have some friends shooting on location there so I thought I'd surprise them."
I smile. "That sounds lovely. You'll have to send me pictures while you're there, I've never been and we're staying in the Austria-Germany-Italy area." I frown at the end.
All of a sudden I hear my choir teacher shouting for everyone to head to the buses. Before I can do anything, Jeremy takes my hand. "I'm glad I met you, Jennifer Scott. Keep in touch." He gives me a friendly peck on the cheek.
I give him a big smile and squeeze his hand. "Oh, I will." And with that, I left.
